With the big snow season this year in Big Bear and Mammoth my family and I made a road trip for the day. While visiting Idyllwild and Big Bear Lake, my sister and I participated in many snow activities. This photo was taken on a dirt mountain road right after snow had just hit Idyllwild.

I was one of many amazed spectators all over the area who "participated" and witnessed this scientific show. Excited, amazed, and scared at the same time, it led me to return home and turn on the t.v. and Internet to search for answers of what this mystery could be? Unknowingly, all who saw this partook and experienced SpaceX's launch of the Argentine satellite and its rocket from Vandenburg Air Force Base.

I took this photo on my stepmom’s iPhone XS MAX. I took this photo at K-1 Speed. K-1 Speed is a racing company that is member only and sells riders per race. It was a very difficult photo to get since he was driving so fast.
I wanted to go to K-1 Speed and race with my Dad just so that I could beat him. This ties into the theme of participation because my dad didn’t want to participate. I convinced him to participate because we made a bet and he couldn’t resist it. So we went and raced, but he won.

During the summer of 2018, I came across this photographer on social media who happened to be the team photographer for an MLB team. After looking through some of his shots, I remember telling myself, "Wow, if he can do that than maybe I could." And that's what inspired me to begin sports photography, but I wasn't too sure where to start. When I came into my sophomore year, I was given the opportunity to go on the field of my school's sports teams, which gave me the confidence to start my journey of sports photography. And throughout this school year, my best friend has been by my side supporting me through all of it - which I am so thankful for. I took this photo during our Homecoming Football game, which was the first time I participated in taking photos at a sports event. And from now on, I plan on to continue doing so.

There were many people passing which caused the squirrel to get nervous and it ran up the tree. This picture shows the theme of participation through the idea of non-participation. It shows how we can be strong and independent from worldly influences that can break us down and dirty us, such as drugs, alcohol, and inappropriate sexual relations. In this scenario we are the ice and the muddy water below is the world. The ice is hanging gently over the water even though forces such as gravity (peer pressure) and constant heat (easy availability) beat down on it trying to bring it down to be destroyed in the water. The gold light on the water is similar to the world's way of tricking us into thinking that participating in terrible things can be fun and wonderful, but it is just a show that will offer us nothing in the end. This picture helps us to see that we can overcome the forces of he world by refusing to participate and instead be something beautiful.
