The photograph was taken outside, near my home where a Spotted Towhee caught sight of my camera and participated in a staring contest. I held a staring contest with a bird. I believe my photograph relates to this year's contest theme because not only was the bird participating in the staring contest, but I was as well. Through this participation, I believe that others may resonate with the photograph and feel the sensation of being in a staring contest, just as I did.

This is a photo I took at an airshow where the pilot was a 63-year old veteran flying his favorite plane at his final airshow. That plane happens to be one of my favorite planes, so we had a special connection without even meeting each other. Since my dad is a plane fanatic he had a connection with him too. It was a feel good moment so I decided to take the picture. When I was looking at it, the plane looked like a toy, and it looks like a child’s dream so I darkened the background and made it look like night time and individually added stars with photoshop.

This fits the participation by participating in the airshow and participating in a moment for me and my dad and capturing something we both will remember for years to come.

This picture expresses participation as a love for personal interest, in which this man practices athleticism. The athlete was found practicing his abilities of strength and endurance.

The photo was taken at the coast while I was visiting there. The photo relates to "participate" because plants have a purpose in growing, evolving and helping. They participate in evolving and changing over time to help the ecosystem. For each ecosystem they have to adjust to change and the plants all have to work together to become strong and to grow healthy.

Teen depression and drug abuse have disturbingly increased throughout the years. This comes from the pressure of school or home. Teens that have been abused and neglected are at a huge risk of being depressed, but this may be because we now live in a society where teens don’t have relationships with their parents or siblings. Teens are now more attached to their phones and friends so that they now feel a vacancy, and it's a deep, dark, and twisted feeling that continuously feels like you are drowning and there is no way to get out. This is often the one reason that may cause teens to turn to drug abuse. They hope that this temporary high and feeling of numbness will get rid of all their problems. But because they are young and naive and it is now “cool” to do drugs, teens ignore the risks that come with making that big a decision, not knowing that this “fun” can turn into an ugly addiction that will consume them.
“Every 100 minutes a teen takes their own life, Suicide is the third leading cause of death for young people ages 15 to 24, and about 20 percent of all teens experience depression before they reach adulthood.” Borchard, Therese J. “Why Today's Teens Are More Depressed Than Ever.” Center For Discovery, Center For Discovery, 9 Nov. 2016, centerfordiscovery.com/blog/todays-teens-depressed-ever/.
Depression in teens rise. Suicide rates shoot up to an all-time high. “The mentality and behavior of drug addicts and alcoholics are wholly irrational until you understand that they are completely powerless over their addiction and unless they have structured help, they have no hope.” (Russell Brand) “9 Memorable Quotes from Former Addicts.” DrugAbuse.com, drugabuse.com/9-memorable-quotes-from-former-addicts/.
Drug abuse and addictions. Addiction can grip someone strongly. Here the model is portraying herself through the drugs. She stares pleadingly into the camera for help, without having to actually say it. This is how most teens react. They will act out and do anything possible to give someone a sign but refuse to ask for help when needed. After her final attempt and silently pleading for help, they are left with the only option they believe will solve everything – drug abuse. When it gets too far and too much comes the overdose, the attempts at suicides, and the worst, the successful suicides.
I am trying to inspire others to make a change in teens actions and transform the way they view drugs. Now drugs is seen as something to do just to seem cool, and for others they find it as an outlet to escape, not understanding that there will always be consequences with dealing with things like this. They need societies view on drugs to change so they can express themselves through other healthy options, where they are not putting themselves at risk.

I took this photo at the mall. I took the picture because I thought the colors of the mural with the sweater would tie together superbly.

This goes with the them participate because the subject was participating with the colors of the mural. I thought the colors would look great together which was the main reason I took the picture.

Too few people participate in activities that promote the idea of going outside and taking in the beauty of our surroundings. This photo helps to encourage people to step outside and appreciate what is around them. This photo was taken at a gathering of my friends and family at a local hiking trail. Many of us had stayed home and not really gone outside to spend quality time with each other due to school studies and schedule complications. But after finally setting aside time for each other, we had an unforgettable experience.

The photograph was taken at school in the early morning. Why did I wake up so early you may ask? I had a competition that day for my school. What does this photo have to do with participation? I participated in a competition for SkillsUSA. So because I took the photograph of the beautiful sunrise, every time I look back at the photo it reminds me of participating for a competition.

My family went to this airshow so I could take some photos for the theme of participate. The history of military Air Force was my theme of participatomg to protect our country. I really liked how many people we met and how everyone was talking about their family history of military service.

The picture I took was a picture of a surfer dropping into a big 8 foot wave. I took this picture at the beach early in the morning. I swam out with my camera, and set up to capture the picture of the surfer. I chose this specific beach for the good surf and the big waves.

My picture relates to this year's theme because the surfer is participating in the activity. The surfer in the photo is participating by getting up in the morning and going surfing and doing a physical activity. The word participate means to go out and take place in something.

Surf photography has been of my favorite hobbies to do. I first started out by using a waterproof case on my phone. From there I have kept committing and swimming out past the waves on the biggest days. No matter how much the fear of huge waves affects me, my passion of surf photography is bigger.
