I focused on my brother, 21, playing with my 8-year old cousin. My brother and I are the closest in age that my cousins Shay and Miles have. Both our families organize regular visits with each other. This photo pointed out to me as a photographer and a cousin that age and distance does not stop my family from building relationships and memories together and participating in each others lives.

This picture was taken in August of 2018 in a concert. Participation in this photo is the crowd of fans is participating in a project other fans made. The crowd is shining lights through heart shaped cutout paper to create the gay pride flag in support of a song talking about the LGBTQ+ community.

The reason I took this as my photo is because it shows the confidence people have to participate. In our gym we all consider each other as family. We all joke around and teach each other what we know. On the last Wednesday of the month, we all participate in something we call a Battle Royal. We are first put in groups of about five. Then we strategize and agree on a plan that might help us win. The winner may get to move on, but the main point of the game is to trust your teammate to be your aid. In the end, we all must keep in mind the three utmost important traits - Respect. Responsibility, and most importantly, Confidence.

When I took this photo, I was doing homework. Then my brother started using electronics, so I thought of the theme participation because my brother was not socializing. Therefore, he was not participating with the outside world. This contributes to the theme participation because so many youth today don't associate with the outside world because they're always glued to their electronics. And that sparked a question in my head, "How was it back then when there were no devices?" I realized that my entire life all I've known is communication through electronics.

This is the first fight I have ever seen. It was so exciting with all the crowd going crazy, the fighters doing their prefight rituals, and the intensity of the action. Everyone was participating in this event. I am going to another fight next week. For me, this is participating as a photographer and everyone had a part participating in the event.
Honorable Mention
Putting yourself out there and challenging yourself at anything is participating in life. This is my friend Nikki, who has been fighting for three years. I have known Nikki most of my life. She attends my high school and is 17 years old. Her fighting record is 3 - 0. On March 9, she will be fighting again as the main event, where she will announce that she will be going professional as a fighter.

This photograph was taken in France, in the countryside. It was taken when I attended a small village's costume contest.

This photograph connects to the theme "Participate" because the subjects in the image are participating in the contest.

This couple was having a really fun time together. They were participating in a fun couples dance competition during the Pow Wow. They did swing, jitterbug, waltz and country dance during the competition. It was fun to see this gay couple out with all the heterosexual couples having a great time participating together. It is not often you see gay couples treated so equally doing everyday things we all enjoy.

This photo was taken in the La Jolla Cove. For me, the cove lights captured during my long exposure capture the participation of the people. The nightlife in the cove was amazing and taking a walk on the beach at night was more exciting than during the day. The cove never slept and I wanted to capture the participation of restaurants, walks, and parties all radiating light.

A student seemed interested in the photo I was taking, so I asked if he would like to be included. He stood where I asked and appears to be a silhouette. Asking and participating go together.

My image was captured on a field trip to Canon Headquarters. My image relates to the participation aspect because I didn't really like taking photos at the time. My father is a professional photographer and he really wanted me to join the Photography class at my school. I joined for him, even though I don't want to follow in his footsteps. Yet, on this day at Canon HQ, I had access to tons of amazing equipment, and this was the first day I truly participated. I took tons of photos and I liked doing so. I think I participated because to me, participation means that you are fully involved. It means that you are interested and you put your heart into what you're doing. It means that you are involved. That is what participation means to me. I was involved and active on this day. I actually took a passion in what my father had been trying to get me to do for years. I am not the greatest student in my photography class but I feel that I can be myself in the class. Whether I'm in a good or bad attitude. No matter what kind of day I'm having. I took this image of another student in my class named Johnny because he was one of my only friends in the class. I thought that it would be great to capture what the subject's point of view was like. This is because I feel that you are participating when you're the photographer and when you're the subject. I captured the photo on one of the Canon DSLRs that were provided to the students. This image represents just some of the images I captured on that day.

Participating in the dance of life. I love to do all types of dance. When dancing, I feel fully alive and free. To me, this is participating in life to its fullest. I hope this photo shows how joyful dance feels to me. I used a slow shutter speed to capture the spinning motion and panned with her motion to capture the trails of colors.
