A few weeks ago, I went on a field trip to a wastewater treatment plant. As I was understanding how wastewater was treated, a big grey bird flew over and caught my attention. It landed in a lake nearby where I was standing, later to find out that it was a heron. Taking my camera out and walking closer to it slowly, the heron stood there and it seems to be looking for something. I took some shots and was about to leave when suddenly, the heron popped its head under the water and back up with a fish between its beak. I had never seen a heron catching a fish this close and decided to take some shots of it before it ate the fish in one big gulp.

Investigation Selfie
I am an everyday investigator.
My eyes are my magnifying glass
which allows me to find new discoveries
in the world.
Every day I investigate
new things in class, at home, and outside.

I remember seeing these two birds at the beginning of the year near the school gym simply relaxing and eating scraps, and I felt as if it was a great photo due to them being completely oblivious to my presence. It fits the investigation theme quite well as the birds do not know I am there, and they continue on with their business. In this situation, my camera acts like a pair of binoculars a birdwatcher would use.

The caption fits as I imagined that the birds are having a picnic, something that is usually exclusively to humans, excluding this time.

I took this majestic picture of kale when I thought of the animals and little organisms living on it. I thought everyone and everything has a story. I was in a garden and looked around all of the beautiful plants all that were there some big some small some nice and some bizarre. I chose this picture for the theme of this year , investigation. I investigated this plant and the story behind it.

This photos deals with investigation because the "blue man" in my photo is traveling trough the galaxy investigating his purpose. He may not know where he is going, but he knows that he must continue and to keep moving, no matter how difficult the obstacles he may face on his journey, to truly figure out what is his purpose is.

The theme of this years theme photography contest is investigation. When I was pondering the theme, I was inspired by this photograph because it looked like it had something behind investigation.

I am thankful to the judges for taking time to consider my work for this contest. Winning this award would truly encourage my artistic photography skills and goals.

Investigation: (noun) the action of investigating someone or something; examination or research. Although this is the true definition of investigation, it can mean so much more. It can mean to explore and discover something new. One could argue it could even mean to read a book, inspecting a new story with each turn of the page. Investigation can be interpreted hundreds of ways, and this photograph is just one of them. By using depth of field, one can portray entirely different meanings with the focus of a camera. In conclusion, investigation can be a wide range of ideas, but they all go back to the central exploration and examination theme, just like countless other feelings, expressions, ideas, and more.

This photo was taken with my subject (Nwar) reading a book under a tree at school. He is pondering the subject of the book, and investigating a new idea on astrophysics (which the book is based upon). He represents anyone who has a thirst of knowledge or to discover something new.

Investigating Nature...
Honorable Mention
It was my first time at a tidal pool and the boys shared my excitement at all the different things that live in the rocks. We explored the pools, cracks and receding waves that held so much life to investigate. We found crabs, sea anenimes, star fish, ells, coral, mussels, snails, sea lions, and many things I don't know what they were. I had no idea how much life lives just below the water.

This photo is of my little sister, Emma, investigating a group of leaves. She is investigating to figure out what type of leaf this is. She is very curious about plants. She always takes care of plants, so she decided to learn more about them. She didn’t get to finish her research tonight, but she will keep us updated about her investigation.

I took this photo while I was walking around the school campus. I thought about how cool it must be behind the the leaves and so I started to investigate. What I found behind them consisted of some more darker leaves and some cool sap and dew. I also found ants who had some bread crumbs. Lastly, I found a bee who was wandering around behind the leaves. I found it super cool that behind the leaves was a whole environment that I didn’t even know about before I started to investigate.

It was taken while on a walking field trip. Well I investigated people last year and noticed they are very unpredictable, like the levels on a building. You don’t know what to expect once you hop on another level.

I am tying the investigation of levitation together in this photo. This photo is taken at home in the middle of the entry way at the base of the stairs.

The photo was taken on the concrete near the shop by my house. I realized that this photo was perfect for investigation because I became intrigued by the embedded leaf and what story it has to tell.

The garden is the best area to investigate what happens to your plant. When is it going to grow? The reason why I took the picture is that I show what happens when you investigate the plants.
Not Selected
This picture was taken at a school community garden. As I took this picture I noticed that the plants in the picture were peas. When people grow peas they usually use a trellis to make them grow a certain way, but this photograph shows that some of the peas choose to grow a different way. Peas are like people, just because somebody in your family is a certain way you don't have to be like that person. Investigation falls under this picture because as I was outside of the school garden I noticed and figured out that not all peas grow in a certain way or direction.

Once one catches a glimpse of something never seen before, it is impossible to erase the memory out of their head. Some choose to not bring it up ever again, while others become consumed by it. They dig deeper, in search of what they once saw. The light through the cracks draws everyone, but only some go closer...

This photo was taken when I had went on walking tour field trip. In the dark rooms of brick walls, the rays of light will always shine through. Whenever there is light that can penetrate the darkness, discoveries can be made.
Honorable Mention
This photograph was taken in the dark at night, and lights are surrounding the picture hidden and visible. There is a river flowing showing the power of nature and time. Trees also are on the ends of the river also showing what time and growth can do. I took my photograph at one of our local gardens, an enchanted forest. I was standing on a bridge looking across the river. My photograph relates to investigation because throughout life you are investigating. In the photograph you could be dark all alone, no where to go and no where to run too. We must always remember even in the darkest of times there is light at the end of the tunnel. There is a lot of symbolism in this photograph to me.
Honorable Mention
How might lights reach investigation?
Our Earth is in a solar system and our solar system is a star.
Ever heard of Aliens?
Who knows, maybe each star has a different world of living creatures.
Maybe not.
The world has theories of whether Aliens exist or not but it can't be proven... yet.
The only thing we can do now is guess.
Each light in the picture represents a star.
You can't see all the lights that were up in the picture, but we can't see all the stars from Earth either.
This picture was taken in my backyard under the stars, which is where I began to wonder of the other possible living creatures that are so close, yet so far away.

Photography is all about investigation...an object or an idea. I look around for clues or answers. It is also my method of research. It's about really looking!
I hope I'm not the only one investigating here. I hope you will look closely too, and have a question for me.

I used the 'toy camera' setting on the camera to take these photographs but no digital editing. (I DID darken my pic a little!

I think this is "Investigation" in two ways. I wanted the girl to be mysterious, looking through the dark, putting light onto things to illuminate and investigate them. The second way it is investigation is I wanted to investigate using a black light, neon paint and try using an extended exposure to create a really different image for this theme. It was taken in the schools little theater, we turned the lights out, hung a black light and my friend is the model.

When I took this photo, I was in my backyard. My photo relates to the theme "Investigation" because it shows how you need to look closely to see little details in the world around you, like this bee. I think that without investigating you would miss amazing moments.

I think of my photo as a comparison of times. Before the development of the phone and all of the new and crazy technology, kids would go outside when it’s 85 degrees with perfectly blue skies, instead of staying indoors to go play a video game. Nothing can beat such perfect weather. But now we tend to forget about what it was like before technology, when you would stay outside late at night playing hide and go seek or go explore nature with friends. Now as a society we see going on a phone or computer to be more fun. My photo investigates what it was like before technology - looking at a beautiful sunset and not worrying about a video game and just having fun in the outdoors.

This picture relates to the theme of "Investigation" because these words and pictures move on the wall. However, are they alive? No. Think again, they must be because each of them represent something. Some stand out more than the others, and in order to function, energy needs to travels through the insides. These signs can choose to be big and bright while others like to go unnoticed. They’re just like us.

This photo was taken on school campus in my science classroom and the flowers were taken in 2017 in a pumpkin patch. The idea behind this photo would have to be investigating different parts of the world; more specifically nature. The world is full of mystery in regards to both life and death and everything that comes in between. I chose to use a black background and then use the brighter colors in order to create contrast.

This photo was taken on a school field trip. I took about 100 photos on this trip but this one really stuck with me. It brought me back to a time when i was scared to talk to people so I would investigate how others interacted with each other to help me. This photo shows me hiding behind plants, looking at two people talking to each other.

I was skating with my friends in the park, and we had passed this sculpture of a tiny man a few times before we noticed it was even there. We had to investigate that it was there. We were really surprised it had not caught our attention before, as it was about 2 feet tall! Thank you for being judges. I really enjoy photography and all forms of art, so thank you for judging my photo!

The Bradbury building is the oldest commercial building in Downtown Los Angeles. My photo relates to this years theme, "investigation," because the picture represents myself investigating or looking at the Bradbury Building. I am saying that looking at history in the past is important and worth understanding.

I love taking part in investigating and creating art. For me that means an up close look at the natural world.

This is a photo of students taking pictures -- an investigation of an investigation. It is eerie seeing others silently lift their phones high above their faces to the light pouring from the ceiling; it is so calm and quiet, save the low murmur of passing and leaving students. What did they think or feel at that moment? Were they thinking about the angle of their shot? The lighting, colours, foreground, background? Simplicity, the rule of thirds? To take a step back and observe the curious behaviour of tourists taking photos, it almost feels as if you were a scientist to a cage of mice, this dissociation.

Physics and astronomy students from a college consortium in California mill around their cameras the night before the 2017 North American Solar Eclipse. They have flown for several hours to arrive at the campgrounds beneath the shadow of Mt. Hood, Oregon, where the eclipse totality will be fully visible. The clear night sky provided an opportunity to photograph the stars, and the students were quick to whip out their DSLR's, tripods, and star tracker mounts to capture images of deep space. They spent half the night constantly adjusting and aiming their equipment in order to better capture the ancient light of stars hundred of light years away. While humanity remains grounded upon our terrestrial home, far away from the unreachable stars, the thousands of photographers and amateur astronomers are our pioneer explorers and investigators into the depths of the universe.

One day during history class I noticed a huge statue of King Tut’s tomb in the back of the classroom. From far away he looked smooth and flawless, but when I went up close to investigate him he had lots of details and layers! It looked like the layers might have been painted differently, sort of like the people who painted his tomb had made mistakes on some of the layers, so they put another layer on top of the other layers till they got it right. From a far it looked like the eyes and eyebrows on King Tut’s tomb were black, but from closeup it turned out they were brown. It looked as if around his eyes he was wearing eyeliner, then when you looked really closely he had also had an outline of something that looked like pencil around his eyes. I learned you really have to look closely at something or someone to notice all the details in them.

I took this picture here at the school studio. I took this image just trying to express how we see investigation on TV. This image relates to investigation because my model was doing something that we don't always do. It shows how sometimes not everything can be seen with the normal human eye. That at times we need help to see things clearly. Doesn't matter if it's a pair of glasses, words, or even someone else, because at times in our lives we all need a little help to see things a Little Closer.

This photo represents investigation because what you see from this picture is different than what he views through his eyes. My friend was going through a tough time in his life and was trying to find a way to solve his problem. Investigation can present itself in many different ways.

I wanted her to be looking for something or give the appearance of having heard something that she is investigating. I liked how the sunlight shined through the blinds onto my friends face and through her fingers. Also, how the light made her eye color pop.

I took this photograph in my living room. The walls were painted a light yellow so I used that as the background. One reason why this relates to the theme is one really the magnify glass and my brothers raised eyebrow, but really usually in movies or cartoons a lot of detective like characters do something like what my brother is doing in the photo. What I could have done to improve this photo is maybe I could've done something about the light on the top right or the smudges on the glass, but it really doesn't get in the way of the photo or my canvas.

Looking for Trouble

Trouble, trouble, she keeps getting caught
But, she can't stop
She won't stop till she gets what she wants
Mom is dead, and dad has left
And he's not coming back
She wants to stop but she can't
She wants to get revenge for the bad thing the world has done to her
she knows it bad
But, hungry in more ways than you think
She wants friends
She want's family to feel loved and safe

The photo was taken on my school campus. I liked this photo for investigation because it is like looking into the past as I looked at the unusual opening this tree developed. The photo makes me question How did this happen? Who was here before me and did they pay attention to this unusual flaw? But, yet it is very interesting to me. Most people pass by this tree daily and don't see the real beauty I have noticed.

This photo was taken November 17, 2017 at the Enchanted Forest light show. This photo represents investigation because the model being backlit by colored lights and not being able to see her face creates a mysterious scene to this photo. It looks as if she is studying the area around her, or "investigating" the area around her.
Honorable Mention
This picture was taken because of my view of the intimidating and unknown world we live in today. Our world is constantly growing, and the only way to see how this is happening is to investigate and examine. I chose this photograph because it captures the beauty you would only find when looking up and looking for hidden details in the wide and vast space above. As you examine this photo, you will see that the photographer’s (me) current location isn’t close to where the top of the trees and plants are, rather, his position is below everything, including the small plants. This photo also makes you want to climb up and explore what is hidden and what is not seen from the photographer’s current location. In addition, the photograph also emphasizes leading lines, which draw the viewer’s attention up and through the tree’s branches. This can also relate to the mysterious and intimidating world because if we investigate and examine, we may be able to find a path that will bring us somewhere that is less intimidating and mysterious. Overall, the photograph is analogous of how the world is shaped today, and how most of us feel when looking up at its tremendous size.

My friend and I were searching for a new spot to hang around, be loud, and just overall be ourselves. We had been walking around a while when we came to this spot that overlooked almost the entire park we were walking around in. We decided to end our search in this spot as the sky was starting to light up with the setting sun but the ground was going dark with shadows. When searching for one thing, you can find another, like for example we wanted a spot to hang out but we ended up finding an outlook on the park, a place to look around and get bearings. We may not have found the spot we were looking for but we still found an important one. I think this is investigation because we were searching for a new location but ended but with something unexpected.

There is nothing more worthy of investigating than the oceans. The oceans cover well over 70 percent of the earth’s surface, yet, remarkably, only a mere 5 percent of it has been discovered. When I stumbled upon this fact as a child, it seized my imagination and instilled in me a lifelong commitment to investigating unknowns. I use photography as a flashlight. This photo that I took at Newport Beach is a summary of my life endeavours. To recapture my fantasies as a child, I set up a long exposure and asked my friend to gaze deep into the horizon. But suddenly, a series of strong tides filled the scene, creating a photo I never even hoped to conceive. Indeed, the silkyness of the water reminded me why I fell in love with the oceans in the first place.

By shooting before the sunset, I eliminated distractions. I didn’t want the clouds to be the subject. I didn’t want the sun to be the subject. No, I wanted the grandeur of the ocean to speak for itself and inspire others to go out and investigate, just as it has done for me.
Honorable Mention
The photo I decided to take was of a skull in a laboratory. While the skull was being examined by professionals I was able to capture an image that encompasses the theme of investigation because it shows craniometry or the measuring of skulls with the goal of figuring out things such as ancestry, population distances and sex. All of those things of course being figured out by the investigation of the skull itself. As for the name of the photo I believe this helps the viewer understand what is going on by linking it to one of the most important discoveries made by modern scientists and that is finding the first human skull and skeleton of who was later named Lucy.

Investigation is when someone or something is curious about something that hasn’t yet been discovered by them. One investigates to find out or figure out unknown information. In photography, a flower is an example of investigation. How could a simple flower be considered investigation? Where did the flower come from? How does a flower grow so rapidly? Many questions could be made to this "simple" flower. Who knows if inside that flower there is yet another world with smaller flowers. Investigation is anything that you try to figure out for the purpose of knowledge. Investigation could be symbolized with plants, animals, shapes, places, and even human beings.

This was taken during the Lunar New Year Festival. This relates to the theme as I was investigating the lantern's details.

I took this photo in the media room of my high school. This photo meets the theme of investigation because it appears very surreal and unknown. I personally believe that it is up to us to investigate what we are unfamiliar with. Doing this helps to inspire more investigations in the future.

This photo was taken outside in natural lighting. Taken outside of the photographers home on a white sheet of paper. With the use of paint, the hand prints had been created. With a steady hand, one hand was holding the magnifying glass while the other was taking the photo. This photo relates to this years theme of investigation because the person holding the magnifying glass is looking into the hand print of the individual.

My family was searching for something fun to do as Thanksgiving break came to an end. My mom suggested we go to a science museum that was right by a pier and an airport. The museum was very interesting because, besides the science exhibits, there were also animals and gardens. We walked through the museum, amazed by the science behind sound, motion, sight, and so much more. As we were about to leave the museum, we came across this interesting mirror exhibit that allowed the viewers to investigate the results of a setup of two mirrors that were side-by-side. When you looked into one of the mirrors, it would reflect the things in front and behind you, forming a dreamy, unrealistic photo. Out of all the photos I took from the museum, this photo was one of my favorites because it felt so unreal and it was one of the final exhibits we visited during our investigative day at the museum.

The photo that I chose to use is a picture that I took at a mall of a man and a woman who are looking through a couple of boxes. Although the editing takes away the focus from the couple, I did so because I felt it would create a bigger emphasis on what they are searching for.

While trying to capture the stories of the residents of the Montecito mudslide, I came across this house. In the debris pile in the foreground you can see how raging forces of Mother Nature can overturn a car and rip it to shreds making it barely recognizable. The entangled mess includes guard rails, pieces of people's homes, and large rocks. I edited the photo to be black and white to fully put the emphasis on the house in the background where you can clearly see how high the mud rose. Despite the enormous devastation there are signs of optimism with the owners of this badly damaged home writing "Thank you everyone! We love you."

6:45 AM in the Madera Ranchos; a small community between Fresno and Madera. Two days of planning went into the photo. I had a distinct image for what I wanted. I came up with the idea in fairly straight forward manner. I closed my eyes and imagined what came to mind when I thought - "Investigation". I imagined a person standing in the dark beneath a streetlight wearing a trench coat and taking notes of their surroundings. Then I wanted a scene for the detective character to looking at. I decided to take fake blood and create a murder scene of sorts on the streetlight. The photo was taken at dawn. The violet-blue of the early morning sky contrasted well with the vibrancy of the blood. A mounted flash with a blue jell to create the light on one side. Initially I was just experimenting with the colored flashes. I liking how they added a bit of intrigue to the photo, resembling the light of the moon or maybe the flashing of police lights.

The picture was taken in an auto shop. The evidence relates to this year's theme because an investigation is needed to determine who killed the victim and why.

This photograph shows the weapons and belongings that were next to the victim, Romeo Pachini, who was murdered, December 20, 2017 at 12:52 am. It was determined that he had been hit over the head with a heavy hammer and then stabbed with a pointed metal rod. The murderer then left Romeo in his auto shop to bleed out while he fled the scene. The police are still looking for a suspect responsible for the brutal murder of Romeo Pachini.

This is a very focused picture of Mary because she is a mystery of faith. This photo relates to investigation because its a mystery of faith. Each of us have our own path of faith that we are on. This photo was taken when I was on a field trip. Although all you see is the nature in California, you may know why they’re there, why animals live in them, why it’s important for us. But there is no correct answer.
Even if we don't know the correct answer to why all we see is nature here in California or even around the world, we may all take time to go outside or search online and investigate about it.

When walking around in Old Town Pasadena one can’t help but notice the nature around them and how it contrasts to the rest of the city. In this picture a person is investigating this leaf and wondering how the environment impacts the world and those in it.

Nature can be a different world when you pay good attention to it. The photo explains how many things can be found inside the tree's heart. This photo was taken at school, with my friend looking for something inside the tree. Ironically he was investigating inside the tree looking for his pencil that he threw on top. Investigating is an important part of life to learn and find new things in life.

My photo portrays the aftermath of the wildfires that have been devastating California as of recently. The fires have destroyed a multitude of homes, acres of land, and the homes of many animals. I made my main focal point the growth of a new plant amongst all the burnt remains because I feel that it portrays that there’s hope of regrowth.

This picture is of a sunset on the lake of Lake Tahoe. I was in Lake Tahoe when I took this photo. My photo relates to this theme since this picture is of a place that not many people see everyday. Whenever people go to Lake Tahoe, or any other place with a body of water, there is always something new to explore like the sand and the waves!
Honorable Mention
I took this photo because I wanted to investigate how the sun would look for the first time of the new year since the sun sets differently each day. Investigating this sunset made me realize that since it was the start of a new year that I need to better myself. This photograph is a crisp, clear image of a natural beauty.

The news media were investigating a rally to bring attention and support for labor workers in America. It was near the farmers market in San Francisco. They were investigating the truth from the people at the gathering. It is my first time seeing a protest. I was outside by the lunch area in my school and I couldn’t help but notice that right in between my friends feet was a puddle. In that the puddle was the reflection of the lunch table. I found that perspectives aren’t always perfect, and could be heavily obstructed. The ideal that stays alive is that you must change and adapt to the exterior to properly investigate. Change doesn’t diminish the intended sight, but rather expands it-giving one the opportunity to investigate.

This was my first time on a boat in the middle of the ocean. I was learning about the current, the weather, and how to operate a boat in the water. I was curious about the animals and wildlife in the ocean. I was able to see some dolphins, but only the top part of their bodies. They soon jumped out of the water. So, in a way, I was investigating about different things in the ocean. I was enjoying my first time on a boat and being completely by myself in the ocean. Although I was with my uncle, I still felt by myself, since I was only surrounded by water. It was like an investigation because I got to investigate by myself, how to use certain things on a boat, and where to look for animals.

During a day trip with my family, we had stopped to eat at a restaurant by the water. That's where we found this small pier, and where this photo was taken. The pier had overlooked a sandy beach full of colorful people enjoying the sunny cloudless day. My niece ran down the wood planks, leaned over and looked out over the railing. I saw her searching through the people and taking in the scene. As her eyes closed I imagined she could hear the noises of seagulls, people, and waves and feel the ocean breeze on her face. Farther down the pier stood my father looking out seeing the same thing through aged eyes. As they both looked out investigating different people and the activities on the beach, they were unknowingly using their own unique wisdom and experiences to analyze the beach down below. My niece who had never seen this place before looked on with an unbiased amazement, while for my father this place brought back memories of the years past. In this photo, I see Investigation in the way these people viewed the world in front of them.

The photo was actually taken at my house, I found a magnifying glass, and as well I noticed that a couple of the leaves were brown. I started to imagine what if a certain part of the plant, has feelings. As you can see in this picture you see the magnifying glass, closing up on the brown leaves. The plant itself is being investigated of how it feels.

If everyone stopped what they were doing and looked out into the world, they’d see a wonderful place with wonderful people. Everyone in the world always is concerned with themselves and with their heartaches. Instead of obsessing over themselves they should investigate the other people and places around them. They should open their eyes and look at their beautiful city and explore their city more. Think about what they're going through because there’s always someone who has it worse that you. Once you’ve opened your eyes you should appreciate what you have and the great people in your life

I chose to photograph a woman looking at a dead person (the hand in the photo) to tie into the theme of "Investigation." When I think of investigation, I usually think of cops and someone dying, so that why I chose to have a photo of a dead person. The woman is looking down at the hand, because she is examining his body. Also, I liked how the sun rays were coming down on the hand, given it a spotlight-y look.

Nature is one of the most curious, creative, and mysterious piece of life known and unknown to man. Going out and investigating these wonders helps widen our imagination and keeps us young at heart. Learning helps encourage us to do more with the world around us. This is an image of a palm tree in my backyard that I love so much.

You may have heard of the word “Investigation,” but do you actually know what it means? Investigation can be when a person studies someone or something. It’s kind of like doing research on a living thing. Sometimes you will see or hear of a cop or a detective investigating, but any type of person can look into a mystery. In my photo, this ordinary little girl is investigating a panda that she found hurt. She is using a magnifying lens to check the female panda for bruises and cuts. She wants to make sure the panda is safe and healthy. Investigating a wild animal in your backyard can be tough, but it is also exciting. Investigation is an important source for us humans. It is through investigation that we can learn about the things we find around us.

Investigation is the action of investigating something or someone. -Google.

We can investigate many things from crimes to friendly gossip. Humans investigate to get a further understanding of what we desire. Many people say that the overall human goal is to find a solution for all problems. We do this through investigation. When settlers came to the west, they faced problems from scorching 124F in the desert, to -10F in the mountains, they found solutions to overcome these obstacles. This relates to modern day because many people take so much for granted here. We put off doing our chores, homework, etc. when our ancestors had it much harder than us, and still paved the path to where we are today. We can investigate in many ways, we can help give data to a water crisis in the third world country, to finding out why our friend is sad. In conclusion, if we have a problem, we need to investigate for the good of others, to pave the path for the next generation.

The photo captures the long trek forward into life, while investigating what lies ahead. The lights represent the uncertainty that the future holds, and how we have to continue forward even if we are afraid of the uncertainty that lies ahead. The color purple is associated with spirituality, the sacred, higher self, passion, third eye, fulfillment, and vitality. Purple helps align oneself with the whole of the universe. In this photo it demonstrates even though we do not have full control over our fates, and no matter how bad our situation is, everything will work out and conditions will improve.

This photo was taken in a Metro Subway Station underground. This photo relates to investigation because the picture is separated between light and darkness and the subway hole looks really menacing with its twists and turns which leads to people on the light side peering into the hole investigating. Also, the hole is black which gives off a mysterious and unknown vibe to it leading to the people on the light side to investigate it. This is how the photo relates to this year's contests theme which is investigation. Basically, this is related to investigation because the tunnel is giving off an eerie feeling and the people on the light side is investigating and peering into the tunnel to investigate the mysterious tunnel.

I took this picture in the balcony of my apartment which has a perfect view of the California sunsets with pink skies. Unfortunately the sky wasn’t pink the day I took this picture it was just only a bit orange. The magnifying glass symbolizes investigation. When you investigate you look at the world in a different way and I think that is represented well by the upside down image inside the magnifying glass.

Seeing things through a different lens.
If for only a moment, everyone in the world would a take a step back and investigate their surroundings differently than how they always do. Oh how different the world would be. We would be seeing things we never had seen before, just by investigating and exploring with a different mindset, vision, and perspective. Even looking through a pair of sunglasses differently can completely change your view and perspective on what you were investigating.

When I think of the word "Investigation", the first few words I think of are "mystery", "enigma", and "unusual". The word "Investigations" reminds of the famous T.V. show "Scooby-Doo" and the famous movie "Ghost Busters". The photo was taken in a dark room, which provides an eerie atmosphere. On top of that, the multiple layers of the cube give a ghost effect on the cube. It's like the only source of light in the dark room is this phantom or ghost in the room. Investigation is also also piecing each piece of the puzzle together. In this photo, the people's eyes will start at the middle cube, and follow along the outside layers as the cube becomes less and less tangible.

I was going through the school garden and found this beautiful tree. This was taken in my school garden, I think it relates to Investigation because I always wondered how flowers would begin to sprout when I was small. In the school garden I found a small tree that I haven't seen sprout in quite a while. I decided to take a picture. The garden has many other plants I could've chosen, but I liked this one more than the others.

My school community garden has a lot of plants. I was investigating through the garden one day and I saw this sunflower that had not grown. I was a little confused what it was when I saw it. So I asked the garden teacher what it was, and he said it was a sunflower. The reason I did not know it was a sunflower is because I saw that the stem was hairy and the leaves had points. I did not know if that was normal and that is why I asked. The sunflower was in like a bun because it had not blossomed. I investigated what the difference was between this sunflower and to a regular sunflower.

This picture was about investigating life at another point of view. It shows how insects and other small life forms see the world. Everything looks so much bigger when your looking through a smaller point of view. At a smaller point of view you can see the smallest things like plants and tiny rocks. This opened my eyes to see the world in another way.

When it came time to decide what I was going to photograph, I went to a collection of figures in my living room. Searching for the perfect one, I found a small man that sat upon a stool pondering of what’s to come. He looks upward looking for the answer. Thinking and investigating everything that was around him.

This picture was inspired by the Smurfs movies. The little mushroom-like house stands for the unusual and lovable smurfs. In the movie, there are two types of people who interact with the Smurfs. People like Gargamel and people like Grace and Patrick. Gargamel tries to destroy the Smurfs’ civilization and use their kind for spells for his own benefit. While, Patrick and Grace want to help save the Smurfs from Gargamel and get home. When you look at this picture, there is a boy inspecting the little house. What will he find? How will he react? Will he be kind like Grace or evil like Gargamel? How would you react?

I took this photo at school, I was waiting outside of my first period class but the power was out. My peers were discussing the abnormality and how it would affect the school day, if there would be a school day. They were all staring at their phones investigating the situation, including myself, but I took a step back from the crowd and snapped a picture. I took a photo partially so I could look back on it in the future but I also took it because while all the other students focused on the bigger picture, I investigated the smaller bits such as how each student reacted differently yet somewhat similar to the situation and how most huddled together but some stood alone.

I was curious about how plastic bottles were recycled. The process of how the bottles went from place to place seemed very confusing. Then my mom and I watched a video to investigate the process of recycling. Watching the video, I learned how the plastic was forged and formed after once being washed, heated and reshaped. The video showed me the life cycle of the water bottle. New recycled water bottles are not the only thing made from recycled plastics, but they are one of the most important. Many other products are made from recycled plastics, such as sweaters, shirts, cushion filling, blankets, all the way to car parts. What the video didn’t show me was how creative you can be with recycled water bottles. I chose a recycled water bottle as the subject of my picture because many people don’t know how creative you can be with recycled water bottles.

This photo was taken at Zion National Park in Utah. This photo relates to this years contest theme "Investigation" because it shows those that are looking at something different. Some are looking up at the the top where the opening is. Some are looking down and they are all looking at different things. Investigating Red Rock Canyon

This picture shows my sister and dad walking on a trail. There aren’t many green plants or flowers growing around this path. If you look closely the plants have some green on them, but are mostly dried up. Why would they want to investigate this area? These canyons have an interesting characteristic. The red rocks are so amazing to see around this desert area near Las Vegas. It’s hard to ignore, and so many people want to see this up close.

The photo was taken in my dining room with my mother's hand being in the picture. Taking the picture was the easy part, the difficult part was cutting part of the photo off, expanding the image and changing the photo from color into a black and white image which is suppose to give a bit of an "old time" investigation theme.

In the Photo, you see a woman's hand laying still with a wine glass in her hand and no suspects to blame for her murder. The question that the viewer has to ask is how did she die, was the wine poisoned, was she shot, stabbed or if she died of natural causes, the viewer might never know. Hence the investigation.

There are moments where the world around us seems surreal and like a dream. No matter how fake our world may seem, if we take a moment to really look around us and take everything in, we can see past all the negativity in the world today and recognize the natural beauty. I created the reflection because of the idea that while investigating ourselves, we discover what we think about the world and those feelings reflect into our perception of how we actually see the world. For instance, if we recognize that the world is truly beautiful, we will see beauty in everything. This is how my photo represents investigation. I took the foreground photo while I was in Utah and added my photo of Downtown Los Angeles as the background using Photoshop. I also painted the galaxy with Photoshop as well. I would like to let you know that while the photo is clearly heavily Photoshopped, that is the point, as I am trying to emphasize how sometimes our world’s beauty feels fake at times and through investigation of the world around us, we can finally accept its true beauty.

As you explore more you begin to understand the true meaning of the memorable journey and the joy you have received. Until next time, but for now we'll just have to ride along and see.

I took this photograph in my home during the holiday season. Taking this photograph, I investigated how families celebrate a fellow family member's first rite of passage. For example, in this photograph it was the baby's first Christmas This is a monumental moment because the baby is celebrating the joy of a family gathering together to celebrate a religious holiday for the first time. Overall anyone's first rite of passages for anything are important milestones because it is the person experiencing something for the first time that can influence their life.

This photo was taken on a cloudy and foggy day in 2017. The sky was very dull and had almost no color. I thought the background was very interesting, since we usually only get sunny weather in California. I started taking photos of everything I saw. But, when I came across a lamp post, I was puzzled because I didn’t know how to photograph it to make it interesting. So, I started investigating the different angles that could make the lamp post look cool and mysterious. I wanted to make it look like something more than just what it was. I decided to get my camera really close to the lamp post and take a few photos, which is how I ended up with the photo that I have.

I was inspired by mystery and murder shows and anime that I have watched throughout the years, inspired by anime such as "Detective Conan" AKA "Case Closed" and Psycho-Pass. I was also inspired by Sherlock Holmes, cliché yes, but brilliant. All influencing me to create this piece.
This Photograph(s) relate to the theme "Investigation", as you can see that the male is looking for something as well as the eye who could be looking for something within time. I wanted people to be curious about what he was looking for or the crime that was committed, but clearly wanting to show that time was limited. I wanted people to come up with their own story for the investigation; What crime was committed? What is he looking for? Why is there a clock? etc.

I want the judges to know, if they didn't already, to use their imagination and think of an alternate world where this could be happening. I would like the judges to see how many different ways it could be viewed. I would also like to know, if I can, the story(s) they came up with if they did. Thank you and have a nice day.

One day I came into a room and found my homework, that was in a organized pile, scattered all over the table. I knew that the person that made the mess was someone from my house and they must be still nearby, While creating this mess on the table, they even had the time to play around with the model on the table. The model was still in motion when I arrived at the scene. To capture the moment I took out my camera and captured the motion of the mechanism which emphasis and gave the viewer a strong sense of “investigation”.. Later I uploaded the photo into Photoshop and adjusted the brightness to blur out the less essential background but still capturing the reflection of metal which gave field.

It also overwhelmed me with a feel of being adventurous and open to new things I have yet to experience.

This photo represents a scientific mystery involving a suspicious liquid found in a hidden science lab. It includes a glass beaker, a testing tube and a pair of scissors. We wonder why someone would be using a beaker, testing tube, and scissors.

I was having a school field trip where I got lost in the wonders of marine life. This photo relates to the theme because I was investigating the astounding beauty of aquatic life as I tried to understand the animals more. I think it's important to investigate the ocean and their residents because the ocean covers 71% of the world. Therefore, I find it essential that we understand our fellow marine neighbors so we could live in harmony. In addition, it would help us find new ways to live so we do not create any more harm to the ecosystem that can affect them negatively. Which led me to take a picture of a sea turtle as they are an endangered species which should be more wildly known so we can work together to find a solution to this increasing problem. I was with really close friends enjoying the few remaining moments we would be able to enjoy a amusement park together before we got busy and branched out in different directions searching for our meaning in life. I used photoshop camera raw filter to bring up the vibrance of the picture to highlight the turtle swimming in the water.

This photo was taken of a real friend of mine at the beach. I think it relates to the theme because this friend would always go to the ocean when she needed to reflect on herself while she was growing up. The ocean is such a place of investigation, not only self, but also nature.

I took this image while my friend and I were wandering down the hallway of a sewer system near our school. We had walked by this sewer hundreds of times, but had never stopped to truly explore it. Our decision to take a deeper look was inspired by the theme of this contest; we wanted to see and investigate what we could find in this tunnel. As soon as we took our first steps down the hallway, we were immediately assaulted by the humid damp air and the foreboding stretch of tunnel ahead. We wanted to find out what lay on the other side of this stretch of concrete, but the further we traveled the darker it got. Eventually the only light we could see was the light from our flashlights. Nevertheless, we kept walking, hoping that we would find something in the darkness. Eventually, we saw a glimmer of light coming from the other side of the tunnel and we raced towards it until we were confronted with gold rays of sun and the wind against our faces.

I believe this piece symbolically shows what happens when people have the fortitude to push past perceived obstacles and continue down the path in which the outcome is unclear. We wanted to leave and we didn't know what was around us, nevertheless we endured and we were rewarded with the beauty that laid hidden on the other side. Through this photo, I was able to capture a moment in time depicting what exploration and investigation means to me.

This photo was taken near an abandon factory's parking lot. The area was empty with no visible cars and only the wind making noise. The sky was blue with only a few clouds to cast a shade along buildings and trees. The picture taken relates to the theme of "Investigation" through the emptiness of the lot. Investigation scenes tend to be isolated to capture every detail without having the public media disturb the scene. Here we do not have any one or anything present we only have a camera and a setting. The yellow tapes stops those from crossing but it is only as effective as you let it be. If their is no man to see you cross a yellow tape the only thing stopping you from crossing is yourself. No one ever stops you from doing things, it is always yourself who restricts yourself from reaching your full potential and chasing your ideas.

The following is a poem that describes how I feel about this particular photograph and the themes associated with it.

Shades of Color:

The Shades of Color— The Shades of Existence
They press a question of immediate insistence

But I shall forever ponder with answers irresolute
For I know not who grants me the feeling of pain so acute

Pain granted by unknown assistance
Perhaps by a great bearded man of holy consistence—

Yet still I know not how to address this pain
Of life which holds as entropically as skein

But it is not life which causes the agony
Rather its unknown who plays my antagony

For my place in the cosmos is perchance naught
And such a notion produces frivolous thought—-

Of absence of feeling and reason
Of no tomorrow for no particular encheason

Of eternal darkness and loss of life
Of even this somber feeling being nevermore rife

Of many things but not I
Of many things wearing to nonentity and no I—

And here I am consumed by purpose
Whose details presented are wordless

And here I stand by the stars
Who care not about my bleak memoirs

And here I am in awe with their hues
Who probe me with their dim pretty blues—

So I begin to forget about petty anguish
Of fevers and crisis that made me languish

Instead I focus on the unwavering colors
They who fill me with emotion and no unwarranted troubles

Who provide me unconditional comfort
And simplicity devoid of complexities encumbered—

Perhaps a part of me shall be endlessly stoic
As I stare at colors from sources dichroic

For I know not the meaning of life
An endeavour nevermore my strife

Due to the beautiful colors that’ve left me uncumbered
Because of their many shades of charm unnumbered—

Thus maybe I have solved the arduous investigation
Whose answer is plain yet causes elation

Care not about what is there when you are not
Care only for the time which you have to allot

Forget about ceaseless darkness and death

Only focus on the Shades of Color.

Take a closer look at this photo. It may seem just like white random fluff in the blue background, but it is much more than that. This picture is a photo that I had taken in the air while on my flight to Asia. The clouds are very intricate, taking different shapes that can be depicted in different ways. Looking at it from far away, some people can investigate and say it is snow, but you must investigate it much closer to actually find something that had been embedded in the clouds. After I had taken the photo, I investigated and had found from what it looked like, two faces that were floating in the air. You should investigate the clouds, in the photo, and find the many mysteries that have been formed in the photo that was taken.

For this assignment, I thought of using my dog, Stella, as the subject of this photo. Investigating through her eyes is pretty amazing. She investigates everyone and everything. She watches, listens and learns so intently and with so much purpose.  She is always waiting for me at the fence when I get home. She shows me by wagging her tail. She also tells me by jumping in the air that she missed me and is happy that I am home. She sees every movement I make and she is so ready to follow me wherever I go.

She loves me in many different ways. She is up and investigating every sound she hears because that is how she keeps me safe. Right now, while I type this she is investigating me; she is watching me while sitting right by my side so she doesn't miss anything. She has that cute little tilt to her head as if she is examining the situation very carefully. As I was clicking pictures of her at my house in my living room, she was so curious and became so interested in the camera because she didn't know what the camera was and why it was making so many noises.

She also creates investigative thinking within my own mind. She always makes me wonder if she sees me in monochrome or in color. Also, I wonder if she knows it's me every time she sees me or based on a certain smell? Have you ever wondered about any of these things too? Does this make you want to investigate more about your dog? Do they feel emotions, do they remember happy moments or exciting moments? Just thinking about this makes me want to investigate a little more about how dogs investigate life. I want to learn more about my dog Stella. I love her and I know she loves me. I can see it in the way she watches me with her beautiful eyes. The way she investigates life so whole-heartedly should be the way we as humans investigate others as well. I think we would be much more understanding and loving if we saw the world they way dogs do.

Eyes are the deepest story tellers of all. Nobody really knows what they tell but the person themselves. They show more emotion, not everyone can describe. When I took this photo, I was in my backyard with my older sister. It was early in the morning, but the sun was shining bright in her path. Recently, my family has been going through hard times. In my sister’s eyes, you may not have known how she was feeling or if she was hurt, if I had not told you what was going on. My photo relates to this year’s theme, " Investigation" because it means to find out or examine what is going on around you. When you look to my photo, you want to know how deep her eyes go and what story they may tell. Eyes are the deepest story tellers of all, but sometimes you just need to investigate a little deeper into them to figure out their story, and solve the mystery.

This photograph relates to this year's contest theme "Investigation" because this picture represents people. You won’t know who they are until you look closely, investigate, and talk to them. There are many arts on walls like this in LA. We just get distracted with other things and don’t notice many artworks on the walls of LA. Even when we see it, we just take a glimpse of it and don’t really walk up to find out more. We don’t take second looks of the art because we don’t think much of it. In the real world, we see people walking around all the time and we wouldn’t think much of it. We see homeless people all the time and we think that they are just lazy. Some of them fought for our country and we wouldn’t know because we won’t think twice of it.

I chose this picture because it was taken in my favorite place of the library, the Children's Garden. At the Children's Garden I had to find the Prism Tunnel and investigate how the rainbow was surrounding me. The way it works is that the sunlight and the mist play together and create a circle of rainbows I could play in. The difference between viewing the sunset over a cliff and watching the sunset fall in the ocean is that when it falls off of the cliff there's this feeling that we could look over the edge and see the sun happily taking a break from it's duties on our planet. But as it sets itself in the ocean, it seems as if some sea monster is trying to take it for it's own purposes: dragging it down, drowning out the life source so that we are vulnerable and easy to control. When the sun sets in the ocean, we can't just go look for it. In fact, we must start a never-ending investigation, one that is only driven by our hopes and prayers that our beloved planet will fight off the sea monster and come back to us...

I took this picture at the beach, where I often go to get away from the world and think. I was walking down the path, looking for a good place to take a nice shot of the sunset and passed by this tree, creating a perfect framing photo of the sun setting in the distance over the horizon. After taking this shot, I watched the sun, admiring it's beauty and was happy I was blessed with such a beautiful sight.

This photo was taken over Johnny Carson Park in Burbank California, it is an investigation photo showing a freeway, mountains and a sunset. With this photo I am investigating what is going on in the city.

To me, investigation means looking out into places that contrast greatly from your usual surroundings. In this picture there is a collection of skyscrapers and a mountain shown between an opening of plants and a wooden fence. The plants represent your usual surroundings which contrast greatly from the industrial architecture of the city beyond. This also signifies how investigation means searching beyond and making connections between different aspects of life. This is shown through the plants leading to the city and how two very conflicting facets of nature connect. The picture signifies a call to go beyond because in order to view the city you must take away the plants that cover the view and be open to new things. If you don’t peer through the plants you will not know what great things the world has to offer.

This photo was taken at my home right after my cat, Luna, had jumped on our dinner table to eat our food. I thought it relates to the theme of "investigation" because we had to check and see if she had actually eaten the food but because of her eyes, you could see that she had a suspicious look. We did find out that she did eat some of our food and we ended up investigating what it was.

This is a photo of swirling food coloring floating on milk. I love to experiment and try new things in my photography. Investigating the mechanics of the world through the visual arts is something that I really love.

When life kicks you in the behind, just get up and investigate where your happy place is. No matter where you are, it will get better. Trust me. I've been there. When you get knocked down you wanna give up instantly. The subject in this photo is how she has been trying to skateboard for months and fall after fall, she still has the strength to get back up; she knows the results will be great. Sometimes getting back up isn't easy and you think, is all the time and pain worth it? Well you will soon find out that it is all worth it.
Photography has always been an outlet for me to express myself. Even on the tough days, there was something good to hope for. Always.

This is a picture of a mini city made out of Legos. At first you might think it’s a picture of a real city. Things are not always what they appear to be. Sometimes you have to take a closer look and investigate to discover the facts and find out the truth.

When I was in New Mexico, my family and I went hiking at this national monument called Tent Rocks, I found a hill that was covered with trees. The rocks at the national monument are shaped like a tent, so I investigated on how to take my photo in a different way. The rest of the hike was so beautiful and interesting about how the rocks were formed. The photo relates to the contest theme "investigation" because it was interesting how the hill was slanted.

How Cold Is My Pool?
So far, this February has been mostly hot outside, but although the weather is hot, that doesn’t mean my pool is! Here I am dipping my toes into my pool. Should I go swimming, or should I not? Through my investigation, I discovered the water is very, very cold. This answers my question. I guess I shouldn’t go swimming in February!

One day, my friends and I decided to go on a hike through the abandoned zoo which closed in 1966. Since the new zoo opened after the old one closed, the previous one became deserted and now is a poplar hiking trail. The mountain path is filled with old and rusted animal cages of the past. We passed by many people and children climbing on the abandoned cages exploring and imagining the animals that once lived in them. My friend Sara was curious about the cages and wanted to get a better look at the inside of the locked cage, so she climbed the metal bars to the top, avoiding the sharp rusted wires. She was surprised when she noticed the small area each animal was kept in and the cold concrete habitat they had to live in. She had no idea the type of conditions that animals had lived in at zoos. By the time my friends and I had left the abandoned zoo, we were glad that animals don’t have to live in zoos like that anymore.

I was taking photos and I ran out of photos. So I got bored and I decided to lay down. I left my camera on, and I looked through it, and I say it would be a really pretty picture.

This photo represents investigation because you never know how it got there. Scientists want to find out everything about the world but somethings have to be left undiscovered.

This photo was taken on a trail behind my neighborhood. The last time I went hiking on this trail was around my birthday in April. I remember the area being covered in complete greenery, but now it’s pitch black after the October fires that consumed the hills. The model of my photo is a friend who lives down the street from me. I wanted to capture his reactions of the dark hills and show how it affected him since the fire was literally occurring in our backyards.

In this photo, I wanted to capture a silhouette of a person standing there and investigating the artwork on the wall. This person represents me, looking at, examining and investigating my own artwork. Art is something more than just a hobby to me, along with photography. These are my passions. And sometimes the best thing to do to help myself get through hard times is to express my ideas and visions through art and photography. Looking back at my old artwork and investigating those pieces helps me better myself in the field of art.

To the most trusted and loyal detective,
There is a thief out on the loose. They probably just made the biggest heist in history. They robbed the Charleston Mansion, the richest most famous family’s home. The picture we have sent is all the in formation we could gather. I know it doesn’t look like much but it’s probably all you’ll need. Good luck detective and hope they’re caught.

I was in my front yard in the morning before school started and the white rose caught my attention because it was the only rose that bloomed. My photo relates to the theme because when I think of investigating I think of a magnifying glass. It didn't take much time to take the picture all that was needed was good lighting.

I took the picture of the palm tree when I was in our school garden. I thought it would be the perfect picture because it looked beautiful in the sun. It reminded me of a summer day.

My purpose for selecting skulls as my subject was to link it to the theme of this competition. Usually, when skulls are being accounted for people think about harm, death, or crime. In this case, the skulls I have selected are colorful and have flowers. I did this purposely because in the Hispanic culture, these types of skulls are used to celebrate the day of the dead and to remember our loved ones. We all have come to lose someone at one point in our lives, unfortunately, but it is up to you to decide how we honor them.

While waiting for my mom after a birthday party, I found these two motorcycles outside. This image depicts the notion that parking on the sidewalk is the beginning of a new journey, a new start. With the motorcycles being parking outside a bank, these could be simple ways to get to and from work, or it could be a getaway vehicle without a license plate.

I believe this photo fits with the "investigation" theme as you can perfectly tell a story with this picture. She is holding a camera and being captured, so it is as if she was trying to "investigate" you, yet she was caught. What's a better device to have with you in an investigation than a camera!? As we all know, the camera sees more than the eye!

In the city, there are more things than just people. Look up and down, look all around you. There are buildings with such great detail and such great height. There’s different weather every day. There’s always something new to see throughout the day in the city because there’s just so many thing to explore and investigate.

This is an eerie photo of a man underneath a lamppost on an empty street. I took this photo on the street outside of my house at night. I thought it was the perfect location since my street was kind of curved and there was just one eerie lamppost on the corner of the street. This photo connects to investigation in many ways. I tried to make it kind of creepy and mysterious so people can investigate the photo themselves. The man under the lamppost makes you kind of wonder who he is and why he is the only person on the street. I made the photo darker but I wanted some sort of light in it because it kind of reminds me of a flashlight used by investigators. I left some parts of the photo unseen because it left a mystery. I also wanted to focus on the parts you could see because the light illuminated a certain area just like how flashlights only see the places you point them at.I hope you guys enjoy my photo because I put hard work and effort into it. Thank you for your time in looking at my photo and reading what I have to say about it.

The Seattle Space Needle is what I call the eye of the city. During my trip to Seattle, a place I had never been before, I saw many new things. The space needle allowed me to go above the city to see it in its entirety. The space needle allows a person to go up and watch over the enitre city. It’s a lovely scene.

There are a lot of flowers in my school, and we investigate the flowers. These flowers are edible. You don´t need to plant this flower. It comes up by itself. It's called nasturtium. I took this picture at my school garden. In this picture you just see beauty and caring.

This is the story of investigation of ourselves. We are surrounded with relfections and contsantly ask ourselves who we are. We investigate our physical appearence as well as other aspects of ourselves daily for our entire lives. I was looking for places to shoot when I stopped at a washroom and saw Rose looking at herself in the mirror. Instantly I had this idea. This shows a young girl investigating who she is.

I went to a book shop. I turned around and found a little door. I asked what is this door for? The store owner said it is a gnome home. So I "investigated" what was behind this small wooden door. I slowly unlatched the door and looked inside. It looked like there was a party. There was a cake and some friends inside with a sign that said "look for love and you will find it." There were some flowers for a birthday gift. Did you know there's an estimated 25 million gnomes in yards across the country? So to my surprise I found several small doors around town where gnomes live.

The photo was taken on the floor of my room. I think that the wooden floors added a very vintage and warm feel to the idea of reading a book. To me, books are a sign of warmth and comfort.

In my opinion, this photo relates very well to the theme of "Investigation" as researching through reading will always be one of the most effective way to gain information. Books have been around for ages, and will never be lost.

When I heard the prompt of the contest, I immediately thought of a magnifying glass, but I figured many entries will be like that. I tried to think out of the box, to think of something that not a lot of people usually associate with investigations. Often, people think of the word investigation and their mind goes to crime scenes, scientific studies and spies. But to me, investigation is to broaden my mind. Reading will always do that. Personally, books have had a great impact in my life and I cannot remember a day where I haven't read a chapter or at least a paragraph of a book.

I hope that through this entry, more people will be able to remember that investigation does not always have to be scientific or related to a criminal study in any way or form. It can be something as easy as studying a website, religious text, or in this case studying The Grapes of Wrath.

The photo was taken of a window. The way it was done was by someone placing their hand on the glass and having the shadow cast on the curtain. The way I related it to investigation is by always having people examine handprints and fingerprints so I decided to do that.

Each year my family goes to San Luis Obispo during the summer in order to see more places and enjoy ourselves. Over the year, this area has become more tourist like, so there are a lot of photos and I decided to capture this photo of young kids checking out area and "investigating" the cave.

The photo was taken in San Francisco, under the Golden State Bridge. It was especially gloomy that day.
Investigation means the act of looking and finding something or someone. I just happened to be under
the bridge and was exploring around because it kinda looks like a hiking trail. I saw this shred and thought
it looked like those old sheds used as restrooms in the woods, like the movie Shrek. The possibility of going
into the shed for an exploration was kinda like an investigation. An invertigtaion to find the perfect photo.

Two friends walking, observing, and taking in the nature. The Hollywood sign hike is 2.9 miles long and they endured the hour and a half walk just to be in the shoes of a tourist. We’ve lived in California our entire lives and, yet, we’re still amazed by the beauty of nature. We investigated the life of a foreign tourist to see what it’s like in the eyes of another human.

This photograph displays the theme of investigation as my brother studies a leaf he found in our backyard. He studies this leaf with a magnifying glass to get a closer look at the veins and the composition. You can see the reflection of trees in the magnifying glass, but turned upside down. The reflection of the trees within the magnifying glass show my brother's discovery of not only this leaf, but of our world as well. This photograph overall represents my brother’s curiousness as he grows up, constantly discovering new things about the world around him.

My picture has to do with investigation because there is a person who crashed a car and is passed out with empty beer cans at his feet which implies that he was driving while intoxicated, and there is a police officer there investigating the scene.

Slam! The Investigator closed the wooden door,
With such a delight to be out of the cold, Rome night,
And only her flashlight to give her light.
Her skin crawled as she walked down the inky hall,
The paintings seem to move on the walls.
As she neared the end of the hallway she entered, she spotted a door the wood as black as the night,
She wished she were back in the daylight,
With her family, friends, and the feeling of being safe.
She wrapped her fingers around the doorknob,
Wishing she had a chance to choose a new job.
The door creaked open as she could feel her heart pounding through every inch of her body,
The wind of air the door had created caused her her jacket of her black outfit to sway behind her.
There, as if he had been waiting there for years, stood a tall, impatient man at least 6 feet tall,
This is exactly what he boss wanted her to do: find this man and make him fall.
After this mission, she can go home,
Back to the city of Rome.
But her future was slowly fading,
As the man slowly lifted a rifle,
And a click of the safe lock turning off, awakening it.
"Bye, bye, future," she thought.
Bang!

This photo was taken just as the sun was about to disappear. The photo is just like I took it-no changes

When I look at my photos. I see that I keep investigating darkness and light and the battle that continues. I think I'm not just looking to the sky but also looking at the world the same way. I also see how it all changes in a blink.

This photo was taken in my backyard around 7 am. I looked out the window and saw how the light was filtering through the trees and immediately started taking photos of the view. This photo symbolizes investigation because in taking this photo, I was investigating how the light filters through the trees. Additionally, through my camera, I am looking at something that maybe I could not see before, and seeing this through a new lens. I love taking photos because I can use my imagination when I am taking a photo, rather than just seeing it through my eyes. Additionally, I can capture the moment, and have something other than just a memory.

The photograph was taken from on top of a pole in a fence, in front of and into a segment of yard behind a private residence, with no identifying details exposed.

This photograph relates to investigation because it was taken in Los Angeles. The City of Angels is in itself colossal. A metropolitan maze of glass and steel spanning over 500 square miles, Los Angeles may, to some, seem cold, icy, and emotionless. But if you look long enough. It isn’t so hard to find some beauty in the center of the concrete jungle.

I see the picture of an example of the fact that you can't see exactly what is right in front of you. Most people will take that literally, but some dig deeper than that. I am one who digs deeper than that, for this chair is my fathers favorite chair, and he honestly loves that chair. When you look at this chair, you don't see exactly what is in front of you because that chair gives comfort to someone. It is more than just a chair, it is a comforting chair that a man cares for.

I think this picture of the lizard is good for the theme of Investigation. Investigation means researching something you do not know. I picked this picture because I do not know what the lizard is doing. I think the lizard is looking for something to eat. Maybe the lizard is looking for someone to be with or it was looking for a cool place to stay cool. That’s why I chose the lizard picture for investigation.

To investigate is to observe. You observe the texture, color shape, size and depth. My brother in this photo is investigating a painting that is hung up in my room to the right of him. The painting of a beach is one our grandmother bought at an art fair. The painting has so many parts to look at especially because of all of the colors, depth and perspective.

This is a photo of a student climbing the fence where it is not permitted. It shows investigation because not only are we wondering and trying to investigate what the student is doing but the student is also investigating. Viewers of the photo might want to know what is going on, what the student is doing. The student is investigating what is on the other side of the fence, what mysteries lie on the other side.

I traveled to New Orleans last year with my family. I was able to go on a bayou tour to investigate nature closely. I saw many creatures and plants that I had never seen before. I felt a sense of calmness and peace as we went further into the bayou. I believe investigation is all about finding new things and new meanings of things. My work explores my experience of investigating the nature.
