This picture was taken on my sister’s 19th birthday. I decided to take this specific picture because a birthday is a celebration of maturity, the more you age the better you handle the curve balls life throws at you. I helped organize the special day where our family went to the park for a photo shoot. To me participation means when you are present at an event that you get invited to and also when you are willing to go somewhere to experience something new. There is a saying “A picture is worth million words” and I completely agree with that. I have become more passionate about photography. Once I figured out how precious it can be for catching a moment that could have been just a memory in mind. I saw a fire of hope in my sister’s eyes when I took this picture. And a smile despite losing three family members right before her birthday. She has maintained to stay strong and smile through her pain. She is smiling a victory after overcoming harsh grief, hard challenges and moving on. My sister goes to college and she is chasing her dreams. Therefore she has inspired me to believe that if you believe you can do something you can with the complement of hard work, discipline and dedication. Break the barriers that try to prevent you from achieving your goals and move on.

This photo was taken in a turnout of my town's most popular hangout spot; a long windy road that travels up and into the mountains with turnouts sprinkled along the way. We found this beat up punching bag and decided to give him the send off he deserved. Together, with a few friends in the woods, we laid him to rest. And for the hour or so we spent with him, he was one of us.

In this picture, there was a group of friends lying down on the floor. The friends were dreaming about a far away land. They were dreaming about what their world would look like. They were trying to escape their problems and dream of a place where they could go and feel safe. They had their eyes covered to get a better visual.

They had just released their sophomore album, Berkeley’s on Fire, and celebrated by playing intimate shows with fans the week the record dropped. On February 17, the band came to my town. I had been looking forward to seeing this band since it was announced that they will be there. I always try my best to attend to all of Swmrs shows in my area because I know I am garnered to have an amazing time. I love seeing this band so much because they encourage fans to participate with them in their shows, whether it's something like sing alongs or the wall of death. They don't just stand around and be to themselves like at most concerts I've been to. Their fans that day, and every show they play, were pretty rowdy and full of great energy. I actually ended up leaving with 20 bruises because of how crazy their show was, and it was well worth it.

In my image, you can clearly see people bonding together over worship. Everyone is putting aside their differences and uniting together, celebrating one thing that they all love and praise. It shows people of all different backgrounds connecting, which is something that we need more of in this world today. They are participating in something so powerful and mighty. Nothing else matters in that moment, and they are engaging with each other and with their beliefs. People who might not usually associate with each other are joining together and participating in something that is greater than themselves.
