This photograph captures a rusty chain link, once a swing, where children no longer play. It sits in front an abandoned home. In the background, we can see scattered plants that have grown everywhere around the home. This pictures reflects the theme “phenomena” because it shows the power of nature reclaiming its ground once humans stop operating on it. It also reflects the power of time upon the metal, embodied in the rust of the chain.

I chose an air vent because I like the AC. In my opinion it is the one of the greatest inventions. It cools me off on long road trips. It warms me up when it’s cold. I truly love the air conditioning.

This photo of acrylic swirls on a paper plate create their own unique phenomena because it is a creative situation to observe the separation of the liquids in paint and mixing them together with another in ways that don't create a new color but rather a new view of how paints can be combined.

I’ve recorded a natural phenomena. It’s the result of rain falling on the leaf and me being in the right place at the right time.

This photo was taken right next to the bleachers by the HS football field. I do not know exactly what this object is, but I liked how the empty area's worn-out paint showed the stillness of this somewhat untouched area near the busy and chaotic football field. Also, I think that the juxtaposition with the moving sunlight and shadows fits this year's theme because it combines two different observations of a single subject.

I was walking around, feeling thirsty. After all we were looking for new ways to photograph water. I had a drink AND got this photo.

The photo is mysterious, showing a lone leaf. It explains nothing and allows the viewer to decide what is going on.

I took the photo through the glass of my shower door in my bathroom. The printed images were placed behind the glass and drops of water in front. You are your own biggest critic. You can become aware of that but there is nothing you can do to change it, like looking through glass but never being able to pass through it. No matter how hard you try, no amount of tears or pain can ever soften the harshness of your own judgement upon yourself. You can never wash away what lies beneath the surface of your mind. Everyone will once become aware of this though it seems hard or impossible to come up wth an explanation as to why.

Isn’t it amazing how a little insect like this helps pollinate flowers to make whole meadows? I watched this little guy start as a caterpillar, turn into a chrysalis, and hatch into the butterfly it is now.
Honorable Mention
I had a bottle and shot right through it, and it gave me this mystery – bright and dark. It’s not a view of looking at trees and a lake, just a view of the school through a bottle.

The photo was taken indoors in a white lit room. This relates to this year's theme, because we often in society get consumed by everyday activities like school and jobs. As humans, we rarely take time to learn about other perspectives of other species in the world. In this photo, society can sort of set themselves in perspective of other species In the world like an ant. I tried to interpret the image of humans observing everyday species in a way the audience can become an ant and put themselves in their position.

I chose this picture because I love my little pet. She, despite being around many other people, prefers to hang out with me. This phenomenon is quite intriguing. I love her and it seems like she loves me back.
