I took this picture at Cambria Pine Lodge. I was inspired by the quote on the bed frame that said “A Place to Dream.” I believe everyone should have a place where they can feel safe and secure and feel like they can achieve anything they wish for in their life.

I took this picture at Cambria Pine Lodge. I was inspired by the quote on the bed frame that said “A Place to Dream.” I believe everyone should have a place where they can feel safe and secure and feel like they can achieve anything they wish for in their life.
People, activists, and environmentalists continue to participate to help protect and save animals. This photo was taken at the zoo where people are participating in an effort to raise awareness about animals and their situations in the wild. Lions are poached and illegally hunted everyday. With the participation of people who want to help, the number of kills is going down. Although the zoo is not equivalent to the lion's natural habitat, the zoo is working together along with animal organizations such as the world wildlife fund to help raise awareness.

I was walking home two afternoons ago, when I saw this middle-aged man taking a ride with a couple of his furry friends. The wind was whirling through their hair on this never-ending journey to go everywhere. Though he might not be the happiest guy with this display of emotion on his face, he was really doing this for them.

Honorable Mention
For this photo we were asked to take head shots and one of my good friends participated and volunteered as the model. This photo relates to this years contest theme "Participate" because it shows that anyone can be who they want to be. This is the time of the year when people can express who they are and how they will make an impact. Since my friend wanted to be the model, it reminded me of how people should be brave and try their hardest.

I took this photo in my photo class. I was given free time to experiment, yet the lights in the classroom were turned off and the only light came from the projector. This was a challenge. I had a yellow thumbtack on a light brown wood desk and took multiple pictures. Besides the photo itself, I think my favorite part is that I didn't make the image black and white, it became that only from my use of lighting. For me this relates to the theme of participate because I was given the time to take it during a photo 2 class. This made me feel like even though I'm a photo 1 student, I was a photo 2 student. Being in the class, paying attention to the presentation on the projector to help me determine the lighting from it but also being able to hear the tear as well as other students discuss and critique photos really made me feel involved in that class despite not being in it.

Students usually are too tired to participate or even pay attention because sometimes there are times that we're given too much workload and fail to get enough sleep.

The people here are assigned to do this. If someone is not here someone else will do it. This shows that they are participating in doing these things.

Ants work together to make sure their colony survives. Every ant is self-motivated to get the job done. For example, if one ant’s task is to search for food, the ant will not stop searching until he completes his mission.

To stage this photograph I asked everyone to line up in a slight diagonal and preform their normal 'tondue' exercise. Everyone was in the same class, so this was easy. I used the portrait mode on my iPhone to blur the background and focus on the foot toward the front. I thought that having many different people point their foot at the same time and all do the same exercise truly showcased the theme of "Participate". A short caption or poem I wrote to accompany this photo goes as follows: "To follow is to participate, to lead is to unite." The foot closest to the camera unites the rest of the participants in their exercise.
