Participation, the act of being a part of something. On February 5, my family and I decided to drive to Chinatown, where people of different ethnicities gathered in celebration of the Year of the Pig. I took this picture as everyone all counted down to fire their confetti bomb. It was truly a beautiful moment when the confetti was in the sky. This event allowed children as little as three to take part in. One kid I noticed in particular, used all his strength to let the bomb explode. However, after numerous failed attempts, his father came in and helped him fire it.

The key element is that everyone played a role, and it didn’t matter whether or not it was a small role or a big role. The fact that everyone did it together was the most important part. Even though I wasn’t physically firing the confetti bomb with my own hands, I felt the love and compassion everyone had as a whole community.
