Life is an adventure. No one knows this more than our "boomers". While some ridicule the time it takes our older citizens to catch up on to the latest technological feat making all of our lives easier or to write a check while chatting up the checkout clerk at a grocery store, our elders are quietly reflecting on the knowledge that comes with age, the adventures that future generations could learn from--living through historical moments that have shaped our country and history. Their adventures? The wars, the protests, the Depression, the Beatles, the fight for civil rights, the first human on the moon, the assassination of one president, and the election of our first Black American president. Our fathers, mothers, grandparents, and great-grandparents have been part of an adventure lasting a lifetime. And they're still going. With a coffee break now and then.

This picture was inspired by one of my favorite childhood movies, which illustrates the adventures experienced in high school just like the adventures in the movie.

This picture was taken in Death Valley at the "Race Track." This is a place where magical things happen. Rocks move on their own! These rocks fell from the mountains seen in the background. When it got to the bottom of the hill it landed on the playa. A Playa is a flat dried up lake bed. This lake is three miles long and there is only two inches in elevation difference. When conditions are right this dry playa will turn into a slippery surface. If everything goes right the wind will rip through at 90 miles per hour and the rocks will slide across the clay surface leaving a trail behind. Once the playa dries the rock's adventures are forever imprinted in the mud.
Upon arriving in Death Valley we were told about the "Race Track" and knew we wanted to see it. We loaded up in our '99 Suburban, sandwiches, snacks, and cameras and hit the road. I was shoved in the car with all 5 of my siblings for THREE hours, two of which were on a VERY bumpy dirt road. After a million "Are we there yets?" We finally arrived. It was amazing - totally worth all the achy bones and car sickness. WE even played "Marco Polo" on land - the playa was so flat there was no danger of crashing into anything. Even though I was tired and grumpy I had learned that life is an adventure - it doesn't have to be site seeing and climbing Mount Everest. Spending time with your family is the best adventure you can get.
Once we finally found the moving rocks, it dawned on me that each of us had had an exciting adventure of their own. Life is sometimes like that, adventures come in unexpected ways and these kinds of adventures make us grow closer together as a family!

When I took this photo, I was on an adventure with my family exploring the city of New York. My Grandmother came to America on a ship from Italy when she was 13 with her family to start a new life here. They first stopped at Ellis Island when they arrived in America and saw the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty represents American Freedom and, in a way, the adventure many people experience when they arrive in New York on vacation or to start a new life in America.

When most people think of adventure, they think of things like hiking or going on a road trip. However, I think of adventure as something that challenges you, then gives you peace of mind. A prime example of this is going to the beach and seeing the sunset. Every single person in my photograph took the time out of their busy day to come to the beach and be at peace for a little while, and maybe watch the sun set, turning the sky into a majestic mix of colors. That is what I consider the real adventure.

Adventures could mean anything. For a bee, it means traveling through the vast world of many different flowers. Each flower represents a trial for the bee to experience throughout its lifetime. Some flowers like the Marigold are unapproachable but others aren't. Here, it finds itself being able to collect the sweet nectar of the white flower. Bees are similar to us humans. We try to make friends with certain people but it doesn't work out. It simply means they are just not the right "flower." Eventually, we will find the right "flower" like how the bee did. This analogy of a bee's adventure in finding the right flower tells us that life is a journey full of trials and errors and that adventure could mean finding what is right for us.

This bee had gone through an adventure to be here, climbing the stick leading to the treasure he had set for. This is the first bee who had left for his own. Instead of leaving the hive to pollinate this bee had a different plan. He wanted to set out for an adventure, for his own goals. This photo shows that he finally completed his goal.

The picture was taken in my house, with a lamp and a binder. This picture represents adventure to me. It shows someone looking through a keyhole, weary of what's ahead but nonetheless filled with curiosity of what lies behind.

Life’s an Adventure waiting to happen.
I see the sea, filled with ice cold waters.
A magical place,
With fantastical animals.
The adventure and amazement I had,
Was like no other.
The sun gleaming with fun all around,
Antarctica, Antarctica.
A place no one goes, always a to-do.
The adventure of a lifetime, can be yours.
Just wait, your time will pay off,
For a place you’ve been longing to go,
Will soon be at the bottom of your feet.
So get out there,
Just like me,
No one is stopping you, so be true,
For I must conclude.

(I visited Antarctica with my family for an adventure of a lifetime over the winter holiday and shot this photo.)

This photo was taken during a family fishing trip. This outing was very memorable as it was one of the first places outside of my house that I had gone to, since being stuck at home because of Covid. Being away from this hobby of mine for so long made me appreciate it so much more. I love fishing because all you see is a blue, reflective body of water, while there is a whole world you don’t see beneath it. This made me think of adventures because when you set out for an adventure, you don’t know what you will find or experience, the same way you don’t know what you will catch or learn while fishing.

The photo was taken in Yosemite Park. It relates to the contest in that it portrays the great outdoors which is what my idea of adventure is - getting outside and seeing the world and exploring. Adventures are all about having new experiences in new places around you and what better place to do that then in nature. This photo was my first time being in real nature away from the city and I wouldn't trade the adventures that I had there for anything.

A feeling of mystery and adventure is created by a water cave, which is perfect for the topic of adventure. Picture yourself entering a cave filled with sparkling crystals, with the sound of dripping water echoing throughout the space. The damp glistening walls reflect the faint light coming from the cave's entrance.

The temperature slowly dips and the sound of flowing water gets louder as you go deeper. The sight of an underground river flowing smoothly through the center of the cave suddenly takes your breath away. As the calm, crystal-clear water disappears into the darkness and slides over smooth rocks, it creates a strange environment.

This glistening cave's adventure is found not only in its beauty but something in the unknown. You might find underground waterfalls, secret pathways, or even hidden rooms by continuing your exploration. The excitement of making your way through this maze-like landscape while taking in the breathtaking, unspoiled beauty of nature surrounds you. It truly is a journey into the heart of the planet, where every turn presents new opportunities and difficulties.
