This image shows a bee on a stick or twig trying to hang on. This relates to the theme because the bee is holding on as to not fall. At the time, it seemed out of energy and unable to fly, but instead of giving up and letting go, the bee decided to hang on there and push through even with the odds against it. Just as we people should do, hang on even if things get rough. Do not give up because you never know. You may push past your limits if you just hang on even a little bit longer.

This bottle is hanging onto the counter, just barely with the strength it has left. That is true resilience.

The photo is an image of a pier during a low tide showing all of the limpets that are usually hidden under the water holding on. This relates to resilience as they are taken outside of their comfort zone, in a place very different from their home, but they are staying, they are hanging on as well as they can so that when the tide comes back up they can be at ease again. They are staying resilient through these times.

Every time I walk past my local park I would notice the shoes. The first time I saw it was when I was in second grade. The shoes are hanging onto the electric wires by its shoelace. I expected it to be pushed down by the wind or removed by the city, but it lasted for a long time. When I thought about resilience, this pair of shoes was the first thing I thought of. It shocked me for many years how long it stayed up there. This made me realize that when you’re trying to hang on in life, you should depend on yourself. Resilience is shown in the shoelace because it hung on despite the weight of the shoes pulling it down. It survived through rain and wind like how we live through pain again and again.

This photo was taken in my mom's car. This is my dog Pepper. She was rescued from an extremely abusive home where they hit/kicked her and barely gave her food or water. She was rescued and brought to a shelter.
When we got her she was a very shy, scared dog with her tail between her legs. She weighed 42 pounds when we picked her up, even though she was a German Shepard and should’ve weighed 70-80 pounds. She didn’t know how to play or even relax because she was so frightened and skittish. The first time she got in a car she had to be carried into it and threw up on the drive from stress.
In this photo my dog shows resilience by breaking through a dark part in her life to become a very happy playful dog.

One day I was walking at night and I saw a lady. She was walking weird so I asked her why she walked like that. She told me she had a surgery. I asked if I could take a picture and she said yes. I took this picture. This is when I realized she was showing resilience.

This photo was taken right outside of my house. It is a fence covered in beautiful overgrowth and I thought it would be a great simple background for a portrait picture. My photo is a photo of my dad. I think he is an example of Resilience. My dad is an immigrant and very hardworking. He is from Guatemala and immigrated to the U.S. around 26 years ago. He has been through many things such as discrimination. He wouldn't be accepted for where he was from and had difficulties doing many things. Even with these hardships he was still able to find confidence and push through. Now he has a happy family and life.

My family and I were taking an evening walk when I had witnessed a big puddle in the middle of where the photo was taken. I decided it would be a great way to incorporate the theme of "Resilience" into it and asked my sister to be the main subject. However, in the photo she appears as a silhouette, which was intentional particularly because the image isn't about her. She represents any and all individuals who have gotten through hard times and came out stronger than they were before. Her stance is a symbol of dominance and courage, and the reflection in the water reflects an individual's success when arriving at the top because anyone can show strength and courage through the struggles life provides. The background and colors signify peace, but it most importantly signifies light, which is always found even within darkness.

Everyday I walk home through a long driveway that leads to my house. My dad pulls the resilient plants out weekly. This image shows the flowers and plants that grow back no matter what. They show resilience by always coming back.

Resilience is shown in this photo by the showing of new life through a seemingly rough background. The vibrant green shows there is always room for growth no matter where you are planted. This photo was taken in an older neighborhood that is being encircled by expensive homes.

A long abandoned spider web, still hanging tight.

My photo was taken in the bedroom I share with my mother and younger sister. For many of us, our homes are what held and sheltered us through the pandemic. We stayed inside of them during the quarantine, we regained our energy after long days by returning to them, and we ate and learned and worked from them. They were the witness to our resilience during an incredibly tough and scary time, and that’s why I chose to use the image I did.
