My friends and I went on a hiking trail and found this large concrete circle covered in graffiti. The circle had been covered with white paint numerous times but the graffiti is always painted back over the white paint. I thought the contrast of the graffiti and nature was really unique so I took out my camera and took a photo.

This relates to resilience because no matter how many times someone tries to cover up the graffiti, the artists always come back to cover the white paint with their art. Self expression cannot be silenced.

The photograph was taken in the comfort of my home. My photograph relates to the theme because of the resilience that a lot of us go through every day. It’s nice to come home to a calm and warm environment with my best friend. She wasn’t comfortable with our home at first, but I found home in her.

As the embers flickered with dance moves through the brisk evening, it was able to glow with shadows in the night. The never-ending, crackling flames are resilient to the dance of life.

Even though this is not what a typical resilience picture would look like, I took this picture with the purpose of showing the resilience people go through when losing someone. This picture was taken in my backyard. This shows resilience because when you lose it is very hard to continue with everyday life and what makes you keep going is resilience.

I took this photograph around 4 years ago while on vacation with my family in Yucatán, México. At first, I had no idea where we were since it was my first time ever coming to Mexico. However, my family and I later came upon this temple-like building, and to me it looked so majestic and divine from where I was standing that I had to take a photograph. While I was there, I did some quick research about this ancient structure and learned that it was called "El Castillo, Chichen Itza" and that it was over 1500 years old, which made me visualize how there were once people here, 1500 years ago, where I was standing. This photograph relates to this year's contest theme of "Reslilence" because this ancient structure still stands high after a millennium of harsh weather and the advancement of human civilization.

This photo demonstrates resilience because protesting is about fighting for your voice. These protesters are bruised but they will not give up. They fight for peace.

The flower...each flower has a meaning. For example, the pink rose on the bottom stands for pleasure and pain. The yellow sunflower shows peace, devotion, optimism, and honesty. I showed the flowers in a spot where they're not likely to grow and thrive but show resiliance by thriving in the environment they are in.

A sole survivor thrives, as others fall beneath.

The little yellow sunflower pokes out his yellow head amidst the rocks and brown dead grass, all brittle and sour. This flower rises above, the sky as its limit!

Amongst a sea of green plants and trees, the yellow mushroom stands tall and perfect, showing how uniqueness can shine through. Despite being feet away from a busy trail, the mushroom stood resilient from those who passed by, surviving against the destructive nature of humans, allowing for its beauty to be observed. Creating life from the deceased, the mushroom shows its reliance by thriving in the most unlikely conditions.

My grandpa was always an amazing man. He was very kind and compassionate. He came from Mexico to try and give his family a better life. A couple of years ago, he had a very bad injury and had to go to the hospital, thankfully he survived it. This time he went in because he had developed pneumonia while having Covid. Sadly, on February 13, 2022 he passed way. My grandpa fits the category Resilience since he went through so much throughout his life and bounced back up. I named this photo "The Peace Within" because now he can finally rest in peace.
Honorable Mention
A plant is resilient because when a leaf falls off of a plant, it can grow new ones.
