This is my grandma. She lives in Mexico, and before this photo was taken, I had not seen her in over 6 years. The first thing she did when she arrived was ask if we were hungry and then started to make us some Mexican food. When I asked her why she learned to cook and who taught her, she only chuckled and said, “out of necessity”.
As a woman in Oaxaca, Mexico, her only role in society was to take care of her family. She worked tirelessly in the background her whole life; dismissed as disposable unimportant. Her husband was an abusive alcoholic ,and though she was never appreciated by him, her kids, and her community, she never lost her drive to care for people. To this day, whenever she comes over, she always cooks for our family. I wonder if anyone ever took care of her the way she takes care of us.

This is a photo of a teacher working hard to complete their work. It shows how we demonstrate resilience against the test of time that we all face. Like in this photo, it shows how a teacher works hard to meet the expectations, the requirements of the students, and help them the best they can. Teachers keep working despite the odds and the annoying questions of the students.

This photo shows how resilient the plant life in the city is. We live in a modern society going through constant droughts and nature is still everywhere.

I was hiking with my dad, and I saw so many ideas but kept going up to the top until I found something that I felt was worth taking a picture of. I found a wonderful spot with clouds and a beautiful landscape. They felt to me as they were basic and not worthy. I heard my dad calling that he fund a pile of rocks stacked. I immediately felt something about this structure that was at the top of the mountain. I was so glad I hiked to the top because this was so unique to me.

Lights like a moonstone
We build up these rocks
Falling on the way
Standing together like blocks
All standing still we’ll stay
Losing many brave friends

Resilience. The year 2020 challenged the world to endure, to survive and to thrive. While we are still in the midst of a global pandemic, humankind has managed to continue to move forward as we are resilient. This photograph was taken at Bombay Beach in Imperial County, CA. Once a thriving vacation spot, this now abandoned wasteland is a playground for artists of all kind. It was reinvented,so to speak. Not unlike how we managed to survive the pandemic, we had to reinvent everything! This photograph depicts our survivor, standing on the shore, looking into a future full of the unknown. She suits up, grabs her prettiest umbrella and faces whatever is coming her way because she can take it. She is the face of RESILIENCE!

My photograph, "Alone", depicts a gas station with bright, fluorescent lights, standing stark in the middle of a dark abyss. All other things seem to fade out into the darkness but the gas station persists and shines through all 24 hours, thus portraying the theme of resilience.

This image is a representation of resilience as it shows the emotion of someone feeling alone and coping through it themselves. To take this image I stood outside of the car taking the photo in a straight view. I made the lighting to where everything else was a bit darker than the person just so he could stand out and resilience could really be shown.

This photo shows my friend wearing a mask as we attempted to hang out while maintaining social distancing guidelines. It relates to this year's theme of resilience as during quarantine, it was very hard to get any social interaction with friends, and this image depicts one way in which we worked together to still hang out, while keeping ourselves and our families safe.

The message of this photo is to represent the resilience that we as a nation have. I don't think America is or has ever been perfect, and I don't see it being perfect in the near future. But we have always ben striving for improvement and we've been through a lot as a nation, so I thought I would use this photo to highlight that.
