I took my photo when I was at school. I chose a tree for my photo because it's a very old tree and has been there for a very long time. I think this represents resilience because it is still healthy and has leaves on it.

My photo relates to this year's contest theme because being any animal in wild life seems to be difficult. We humans tend to change everything about the wildlife and habitats, and change everything so that it makes it difficult for most animals to survive. But usually wildlife finds ways around our changes. Chipmunks are quite smart and finds ways to get food and build or find safe homes for themselves. This one even survives in the Arizona sun.

The photo was taking right outside my school. It shows my bravery of me trying to fight back instead of running away. Nothing really. Just highly consider this as I worked really hard on it.

I took the photo from inside my car on Skid Row. I drove around and took photos at every red light or stop sign. Many homeless people in LA have resilience and the capacity to keep living one day at a time.

In these last two years, we have been out of school and not able to work with fellow classmates or teacher face to face. This school year, we have been back and able to work even harder than ever. This image shows the awards students are winning for their hard work being back in school. This image was taken during a award assembly with the Digital Arts and Technology at school.

This is a picture of a small bird that I took in that had a broken wing. I kept it in a box overnight with a cap of sugar water to boost up its energy and allow it to rest its wing. The bird was scared at first, frantically flapping and crying, but eventually came to its senses to drink some water and rest. I like to believe that the bird knew panicking would not make the situation any better, so instead it chose to gather up fuel and energy so it could figure out what to do next.

By definition resilience is "the ability of adapting well in the face of adversity", and this bird represent just that. It adapted to its situation by calming down and allowing its injured wing to rest, and by morning it was good for take-off.

Still relatively new to this, my mom unlocks the gates to the employee entrance of City Hall. This is one of the first times in just under two years that City Hall is back in-person. The Covid-19 pandemic had left City Hall only working virtually. But now, after all this time, we’re back in business.

My image was taken at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year near our school's softball field. I am currently a freshman and being one of the lower classmen, I have a lot to prove to those older than me. Our school in the year of 2022 has been through loads of problems, our old varsity coach got terminated and softball games have been cancelled, but through all of that, my love and passion for softball has always been there for me.

The glove in the photo has been in my life for 5 years. I have grown up into a more mature woman but also have been accepted into my dream softball program. They help players get into their dream college like UCLA or Chicago University. Being a freshman and playing for both high school varsity and a private club team, my life can get very stressful. But softball has always been there for me and I will always appreciate the things softball has accomplished for me.

I thought this photo really captured the resilience of people during the pandemic. Many people embraced the beauty of nature and going outside once the pandemic started and I thought this picture captured it all. My photograph relates to resilience because the light in the image is showing that through the tough times there is still a bright light of hope.

This photo relates to the theme, because when I think of resilience I think of beauty beyond what we can see. I also think of resilience as being strong enough to find a way even through chaos. In this picture I showed my vision of what I think is true resilience.

I wrote "resilience" in Morse code on my arm, showing my prospective of simple beauty.

This photo was taken at a skatepark I brought my brother to. The boy in the picture, who I didn’t know, had been trying a trick all day. On the run where he finally made it, I snapped this photo. I can’t put a number on the amount of times I saw him fall through 3, 4, 5 feet of air, or even the number of times his own friends, who were filming him, seemingly tried to convince him to abandon. All I know is that, in the golden light of the falling sun, his entire body undoubtedly aching with pain, he finally made it. The photo was shot seconds before the skater soared through air in the desired manner, when he was building momentum to be able to accomplish his trick, and the total, unconditional investment in his body language - his head facing straight down, his body bent over the fall - even despite his having spent the last hours facing repeated failure, perfectly portrays the resilience in his mind.

This photo of my best friend was taken in the school bathroom, this is a place we visit often when our minds begin to feel foggy at school and we can no longer put up a fake front. As anxiety and depression affect both her and me, I wanted to depict the struggle behind the strength we have to be resilient while struggling to create the perfect curtain of happiness for our peers and teachers. I believe being resilient is not just being okay after falling down but being willing to admit you are not okay and giving yourself a break and fighting the urge to give up.
