To me, resilience means looking into something brighter. In this picture you will see a ball faded into black and the skies bright and colorful. This represents a dark time that happened in your life, and that you should look outside of that and see what’s bright and what is to come.

While in my backyard, I realized that when rain stops, there is always going to be the sun that follows it. It sometimes takes a couple minutes, hours, or even days but it always follows. It’s just like if something brings you down, there will always be something good following. Just like the sun, it might take a while, but it will always happen. We can compare the rain to struggles we face and the sun to positive outcomes. Even on the rainiest and cloudiest days, the sun will make it brighter, just like the resilience we face almost every day.

My photo shows resilience because it shows a homeless person still trying to get his education even though he doesn't have anything. The foreground shows the individual while in the background society is represented by the walled community. Homeless people are resilient because they struggle everyday with no shelter and the constant day to day survival. They get beat down emotionally and physically. They are resilient to survive.

This photograph relates to this year's contest theme because it shows how its broken in half and at the same time it's still tough. It's holding on and showing how being broken and being in recovery, you can still show your beauty.

A few months back, an opossum showed up under a tarp that covers our generator. We were going to scare it off, but it had a broken, mangled leg. We fed it and gave it water. He managed to walk around and eat even with a ruined leg. He slowly started healing and one day he he just vanished. We like to think he was resilient: he healed and got away to live his life.

What I think the word “resilience” means is “to never give up, and keep trying”. How my photo shows “resilience” is by showing you this kid is not giving up when he fails at his video game. I was watching TV to see what my little brother saw in our VR. He kept failing but he never gave up, and he kept trying. And this is my way of showing a photo for the word “Resilience”.

When taking my photo, Built Tough, I was in a tennis court in the community center of my neighborhood. This community center is where I practice for basketball. Although I come home sweaty and tired, I always come back stronger and better than I was before. This shows that I am resilient. My photograph also represents the theme resilience, which means to recover extremely quickly after a difficult situation, for example the almost 2 years of Coronavirus and quarantine. We are built tough, just like an athlete when they suffer a big loss, injury, or bad season, and they always come back stronger. Just like us as a society, we are coming back stronger after the difficult two years. We are all resilient in our own ways and make each other stronger! We are built tough!

Cancer survivors are resilient. They are resilient because all of them were able to adjust to changes and were able to recover from cancer. These survivors have gone through chemotherapy, loss of hair, and loss of weight but all of these people are now Cancer free and living their best life.

This photo was taken on a trip I took during winter break. My friend climbed a nearby mountain and that’s when I took the photo.

He conquered his fears. Climbed the mountain of his problems. He persevered and showed resilience. Of course there was hardships. But he wouldn’t let them take him down. He made fear, fear him. And he became the Champion of the World.

I took this photo in my living room, of the marble chess set we treasure. I wanted to show the resilience of the white piece against its opposing team. Even though it is surrounded by enemies, it flourishes and survives. It stays up even when there is no hope of survival. This represents many people in the pandemic; we beat the odds and survived.

These photos were taken in a small isolated forest, while the world tried to open up once again due to Covid-19. This is my little sister, who is 11 years old. She was so excited to go out for the first time in a long time.

It is too much for a child to experience a wide-world pandemic. Despite all the confusion happening around the child, they are able to maintain a strong core through all of this. Have a backbone while adapting to the new ways of life. The capability of the child to feel that this is fine or normal. They have their down time but still understand that they must stay resilient and have the potency to overcome all these challenges. This I did not foresee in a child, new to these experiences with them.
