Resilience is the ability to survive in the toughest of circumstances. This lone dandelion somehow was able to grow in a pathway often walked by multiple students. Yet, somehow against the odds, it has persisted and furthermore thrived undisturbed. Thus, this lone dandelion to me represents resilience.
Honorable Mention
No matter how many times a dandelion is destroyed, it always finds a way to replant somewhere else. The wind carries the seeds where ever it goes.

This photo was taken with the help of a friend of mine. This represents Resilience by showing someone being consumed, but they are still standing no matter how much darkness consumes him. Also, this photo looks like me, but it actually is not. A friend of mine was helping with it. I had her tie her hair back and put on my sweater, along with hold my bag. It looked pretty convincing.

This photo was taken at my church, I was walking around and thought that the tree would be good to represent resilience.

The leaves still grow on the tree even though the odds are against it. The harsh environment and the fall. It’s natural, yet cruel. The trees are resilient since they survive and push through even if the world seems to be against it. It may look like the leaves won't grow but it will still grow every year. It seems to be a “never ending cycle” that gets harsher and harsher yet the tree manages to push through. It still regrows its leaves every time.

My father’s parents passed away before I was at the appropriate age to be able to remember them. Ever since both of his parents left him, he has been trying to smile, but his grief still bleeds through. Even though he has been brought down by this tragedy, he continues to travail through his work.

This is my great grandmother (Dedimami). She is 93 years old. She has shown tremendous resilience throughout her entire life. She has lived through World War II, communism, and remembers the Soviet Union changing her life forever when she was twelve years old. She has stayed strong through all of the challenges that she has faced, and has survived unimaginable situations. She is currently living in a small town close to the Ukrainian border and hears the missiles and bombs hitting Ukraine everyday. Her apartment shakes when the bombs land near her house. I miss my Dedimami very much and hope her resilience shines through once again so I can see her soon and give her the biggest hug to let her know how much I love her.

This plant has lived its entire life here. Trying its hardest to survive in this harsh environment. No water other than what it gets from the soil. The remnants of its dead kin. But despite everything, it still grows. It was taken under a branch near the central courtyard. This is connected to resilience because despite its surroundings, it still grows.

Every night she makes dinner for five people. Sometimes her meals are loved, other times they are hated. Yet, she continues to perfect her recipes and feed everyone. She is resilient. Another reason she and this picture are resilient is because she is finding a way to cook for a big number of people although her refrigerator is broken causing her ingredients to be limited. She is trying to make light of the situation.

Due to the pandemic the only way students could continue learning was through distance learning or online learning. Distance learning was very difficult for most students because they couldn’t get the same amount of help they got in person through a computer. Distance learning was a big change from being in person one day and learning through a computer another day. Many students couldn’t learn through a computer screen and struggled with their own personal issues while worrying about school. Many students failed all their online courses; however, there were also students who were resilient and worked hard to keep up with assignments. These students were able to overcome this hard change and adapt to distance learning. My photo shows how students were resilient during online learning and were able to maintain good grades throughout online learning.

I used the rule of thirds to get the laptop and the paper in the middle. I decided to get down to the table’s level to really capture what working during online learning was like. To really draw a viewer's attention to the paper and laptop I used the spotlight mode on portrait on my iPhone. By putting the spotlight on the computer screen and paper, the viewer’s attention is drawn directly to them. I also decided to add a black and white filter to give my picture the feeling of how distance learning wasn’t easy but students were resilient and managed to get through online learning with good grades.

This picture shows resilience because it was first a little seed, then it grew up to be a beautiful flower. It shows resilience because it has to survive all the harsh weather. It has to survive the cold, hot, rain, and windy days all by themselves. It shows resilience because it's strong enough to grow while surviving the harsh weathers.
Honorable Mention
I took this picture because I wanted to show resilience with someone trying hard to overcome life even when time flies.
