Honorable Mention
This photo was taken in the back of my father’s truck, just before taking my dogs for a ride. In October 2020, Max had a stomach illness that led to an auto immune disorder which caused his joints to swell and his organs to shut down. After three doctor visits, we were told he wasn’t going to make it, but on the fourth visit, they suggested a “Hail Mary” treatment using steroids, antibiotics, and antacids. After a week, he gradually started to gain weight and began to move his joints. After a month of steady treatment, he was in great shape and he was able to play with his twin sister again. This is what he looks like now. My photo relates to the theme because Max never gave up fighting.

The entire world in working to help the Ukranians and help them keep their freedom. It also shows how some Ukranians are not leaving and choosing to stay instead of abandoning their country. This shows resilience in so many ways as they are resisting against Russia and not leaving their homes even on times like these. This, in my opinion and I assume yours as well, is resilience.
Honorable Mention
This photo was taken in the NYC subway system. Due to the recent attacks on Ukraine, students have been coming together to display their support for the people of Ukraine and protest the President of Russia. My photograph portrays resilience because it represents the ideas of never giving up and always standing up for what you believe in. By standing up for what they believe in, and displaying their support for Ukraine, they are resilient in their message and working towards spreading awareness.

I would like to add that behind the students in this image, was a large group of other protesters. I decided to take a picture of these girls because they were supporters of the protest, but without the signs, they really didn't look like it. Everyone else was wearing colors of the Ukrainian flag and screaming and shouting their verbal support. These students still were being supportive and displaying ideals of resilience no matter how vocal they were.

It's 10:00 o'clock at night, and we are in a cabin high in the mountains trying to ix the antenna. I was assigned to hold the flashlight so my grandfather could fix the antenna. My grandfather has been doing tasks for at least 60 years. He has never denied doing a task, and in my mind that is resilience.

There was a praying mantis hanging from the ceiling outside my door. I took a photo and thought nothing too much else of it to be brutally honest. However, when looking through my camera roll to find a photo to submit, I looked at it and thought, "Huh, is that mantis still alive?"

It's been a few months since taking that photo, and I paid very little attention to it. But a lot of things happen in a few months. That mantis is probably dead and gone, with this photo being the only remains of it. In fact there's tons of things that are dead and gone with no evidence of them left. Yet despite this inevitable fate that time will take care of, everything still chooses to push on with life to fulfill its tiny goal. Why did the mantis of all places that night choose to sleep there?

The photo ifetures a Pacific Sea Nettle Jellyfish. Global warming has had widespread effects on marine life, devastating habitats through warming oceans and decreasing oxygen levels. Many marine species, especially those in coral reefs, have not been able to adapt to the newly changing waters. However, jellyfish have been resilient, as many have adapted to use less oxygen and thrive in higher temperature waters. Resilience is about reacting and overcoming to change, and jellyfish have adapted to their new habitats despite the obstacles facing them.

I walk past this bush everyday on my way to class at school. This flower stood out to me because it was the only one thriving on the bush. It was able to bloom and grow, while the other flowers couldn't.
Honorable Mention
The idea of this project was for the flower to show with my classmate holding it. It's pretty much saying how it's the only flower there and to keep moving on. So her holding it makes it seem like it's not alone.

I projected an image from Google onto a model and took the photo. Then I used Photoshop to remove some letters that showed in the projected image.
Honorable Mention
I photographed this during the afternoon of browsing plants, where I found a single flower tucked into one of the pots. The flower, in its still good condition but having wrinkles in its petals, represents how someone could feel being placed in a drastically distressing area. Although it's slightly creased from being in an decrepit area, it stands resiliently by, still flourishing in its dark surroundings.

Though the pollution may choke you
Fly, fly butterfly
Don’t let the darkness become you
Keep flying butterfly
Though you feel alone, there are others right by you
Fly, fly butterfly
Run away from the blue
Stop falling butterfly
Though your wings may tear you
Fly, fly butterfly
Your life is short to others but not to you
Start soaring butterfly
And give up trying to make yourself someone else
Butterfly, you can only fly with your own wings

This photo is a pair of naive butterflies escaping from the harsh, dark branches. Figuratively, it is about running away from the darkness that comes with being insecure about yourself. Even though they suffer insecurity and others trying to push them down, they live their lives as themselves. You can only truly succeed as yourself. They persevere through the hardship of being afraid to be themselves and being attacked by their own negative thoughts. Even though these butterflies might seem so perfect and beautiful, they are not, because everyone's biggest flaw is not seeing yourself for the amazing person you really are.

In a hiking trail center, there is a pond and it is surrounded with palm trees that are not grown, I used the leaves to frame the pond. This photo represents resilience with the leaves like a fence, blocking the way. The pond is freedom, a paradise, something we can't reach yet. The pond is blurry, meaning (in the fog). We are right now walking blind with Covid. It's something we've never seen before, so in order to see our future we must change.

All he wants is to be a friend, all he wants is a bond. The cat wants nothing but personal space and my friendly dog gone.

So he makes sure to maintain a distance, but gets closer one step at a time. The cat is still hesitant, although good friends are hard to find

In hopes the cat will open up, he lays and waits for him. And the cats been getting closer even if the difference is slim

Their relationship is odd, and something I'll never understand, but I know my dog will keep coming back, until they’re the best of friends
