This photo was taken in the school quad on a cloudy day. This relates to the theme because the person the in the photo is participating by taking a photo of something else. I am not that good of a photographer but I try.

I took this photo on a cold, rainy day after school. I stood tall on my tippy toes to achieve the angle and lighting desired. I believe this photo captures the theme "Participate" so well because there are many elements of participation needed when growing a plant. Once I really began to think of all the different elements, I couldn't believe it! The participation needed includes, to name a few, photosynthesis, soil, a person to plant it, and so much more. All of these things participate in the growth of the plant. However that is not all, how about the shade that the plant will provide to the many generations of people over its lifespan? How about the oxygen this plant provides to so many people and animals? What about plants that are edible? They are a source of nutrients! What about the fact that plants help clean water? Did you know that plants are used to make clothing? It's true, the materials are eco-friendly and less expensive. Plants also provide shelter and are an important source of furniture, too. Plants are also incredible sources of medicines and vitamins. Plants are also grown for the sake of bio-fuels. Plants participate in the contribution to our economy and economic growth. There are so many things made possible by the participation of plants in our lives. It's pretty amazing when you think about it!

In the tennis season, I enjoyed taking pictures of my teammates. It was taken as my friend was sweating and working hard to win her school match. My friend had the nerve to go out and play in tennis singles and participate in a high school sport to represent her school. Coming into the tennis season, my friend was playing singles and she was scared and thought she would not succeed as much as she did. As the season went on, the team began to work together and play like a team, cooperating with one another. My teammates ended up seeing our talent and the amazing qualities in one another. My team worked together and we thought we either win as a team or lose as a team, but either way, we had each other's backs.

My mother is playful and participates in everything no matter where we are or what we are doing. She makes life fun by participating in it! She reminds me to get out there and have fun and participate in life and not sit back and let it go by me.

We were at the beach with my friends and family. We brought my dog who loves to play catch the ball, and we played that for a long time. I took this picture when she was really tired after playing the game.

This is a photo where you see a girl playing in the snow. Well, that girl is my sister, and this was taken a couple of days after New Years while we were on winter break. This photo reminds me of an easier time where we didn't have to worry about big projects and just high school in general. This was good to help keep my mind off of going back to school.
Honorable Mention
I took this photo during a winter break day camp. When I saw the three children playing together I thought that it is always more fun when you do things together. That is why my photograph relates to "Participate" and them doing an activity together.

This photo was taken at Akaka Falls near Hilo, Hawaii. Participate, to me, is physically taking time to do something that matters, whether it is hiking, bike riding, swimming, etc. In this picture, the subject is pointing at an exotic tree while on a hike. He is taking time to show his wife the tree while exercising.

I took this picture at the beginning of my junior year. I had this idea for a photoshoot where we would all dress up in gowns and heels to simply ruin them throughout the shoot. I didn't know entirely what the plan would be or how I would execute it, but I knew it was a concept I wanted to explore. The day before my best friend, Paige (pictured), and I had planned to shoot, I experienced my first break up. We still shot the next day despite the pain I was in. Upon reflection, the day we shot, and the photoshoot itself, means a lot to me because it was the first time I really used photography as a form of escapism. I learned to channel my pain into my art and it has given me my most efficient coping mechanism since. Now, in regards to my photo, I had my best friend Paige lie down in grass, jump in the pool, hike in 90 degree weather in heels, all to get the pictures I wanted. She went through hell and back to help me not only with this concept, but through my breakup. Nothing screams participation more to me than a willing best friend.

Pictured are four of the five animation team members holding the award that they won in the Fall Film Festival hosted by Wonder Media the makers of the software that was used by our team. On the screen is the character that featured in our award winning video titled “George Cornelius III Presents Positive Behavior.”

The award is for Best Character Education Lesson and represents our participation in the competition. This is our first award for animation at our school. Next we are participating in an event in which our team will produce a segment of a full length animated feature which will be shown in our local theater. This will just the beginning of great things that our students will achieve. My students are amazing.

The person in the photo was walking by, and the light attracted me by the way it covered him. It inspired me to take the photo.
