The photo was taken in the school ground where there was a tree. I thought it went well with the theme since the photo was by chance since it was never usually windy at school.

This particular scene struck me because there is a designated EPA superfund site (a site that is extremely polluted and toxic) nearby, and the fact that nature was able to overcome and still survive in that kind of environment really reflected how powerful nature is to me. To me, this image was indicative of a larger theme of nature being able to overcome all sorts of obstacles such as oil spills or global warming despite the odds. Moreover, for these trees to be able to survive and grow over a long period of time where a human would get sick otherwise also reflects the fragility of humans.

The photo was taken in Yosemite National Park. It reminded me of Ansel Adam's work capturing the majesty of nature and how it works together. I feel it relates to the theme of phenomenon because nature and how it works together to stay in balance and to create new things is an amazing phenomenon. In this picture you can see how nature created its own path down from the top of the mountain and how it traverses along the bottom, making its own path when needed. Also, the mountain has a sharp cliff, but trees and life still continue to grow and even when faced with the force of the rushing river the plants in it persevere and live.

I took these photos for a project in photography class. I went to my friend's house and we had so much fun. The project was to take photos of different liquids and you can make them as weird as you want. To get those photos I used corn syrup, food coloring, and this perfume that had shimmer and glitter in it. I love the way these photos turned out and when our teacher told us about this contest, I got really excited. I never really entered my photos into anything so this was the first time. I am honestly just happy that I put my photo out in the world.

I was walking around a beach when I saw an old couple standing next to each other enjoying some wine. This is a phenomena because it shows true love.

The photo was taken from my backyard, behind an old fence. A sunset is said to be the most common natural phenomenon, but that doesn't make them any less beautiful. At first glance it seems the sky is only orange, but the more you stare, other colors start to pop out. You see a mix of blue and even some purple among the gray clouds. The blending of these colors come together to form what everyone calls a "sunset", which is one of earth's most precious phenomena. It occurs everyday without fail, we just need to take the time to look at it.

A beautiful sight from just outside the Palos Verdes Peninsula. A view from just behind some flowers. It shows the beauties of California and how amazing it could be.

Peace. A concept only few have truly achieved. World peace? Is it possible? Internal peace? Can one really feel relieved from their worries and fears? I believe that temporary relief and tranquility is attainable. However, eternal peace is what I strive for, not only for myself but for the world I live in as well. The warmth of feeling calm, secure, and alive is inspiring and quite beautiful. I believe that I captured my peace and I encourage others to do the same.

Comfort Zone:
My knees tremble
And my throat turns dry
I mess up my words,
Forget what I want to say sometimes
But it feels a million times more right
If I just go and face the fight
No hiding behind masks,
Sitting in my comfort zone
No longer a shadow of my true self,
Putting my dreams back on the shelf
Reach for the sky and you shall see
What all the world has come to be

This photo was taken in the Kraft bouldering area of Red Rocks national park and preserve. Climbing rope free forty feet in the air takes a level of comfort and confidence in your own body that is phenomenal for any person to achieve. If that wasn’t enough, the climb down is a fight against your body’s natural instinct to fear heights. The phenomena of fear is a beautiful, yet grotesque situation. When humans are in fear, we are at our sharpest, making the decisions that will save our lives. But we are also the most selfish, making the decisions that may harm others.

Millions of years ago, the collision of tectonic plates started forming the vast expanse of the mountains known as the Sierra-Nevada’s. Each earthquake we have further develops the mountains. I am standing on an old volcano, taking this photo. A couple thousand years after, the expanding ice of moving glaciers carved out the lake basin that is over 1,800 feet deep.

Scientists and the news cover the global phenomena of climate change and yet people still deny the existence of such an occurrence. I shot this in the California Sierra mountains, where due to climate change, wildfires are an annual phenomenon to the point where locals will say there are only two seasons of the year now, winter is ski season and the summer fire season. This 2020 winter is the driest on record and the fire season is coming. I wanted to show how we are surrounded by global warming and yet people keep denying it is happening. The newspaper is catching on fire in my friend’s hands to show how we all need to wake up and become active so that we can change what is happening. This shot was taken in an area that recently burned.

The human spirit has amazing capacities. This is a little dancer in my dance class that I teach. She fits right in and all the other girls treat her as one of their own. Community and individual resilience are human phenomena.

Love is the glue that keeps our society from falling apart. Love creates bonds incentivising creatures to stick together. Without Love, there is no reason to try, no reason to keep going, and no reason not to give up. The concept of love is a phenomena unlike any other. Seen in everything from complex creatures like humans, to animals as small as fish. On a fundamental level, we are the universe, looking at itself- the universe loving itself, and as organisms with brains, we are the universe at its peak potential, creating reasons to experience the wonders of life. Love is everything, and it's everywhere; a phenomena worth appreciating.

When most people see fighters, they think of violence and anger.  I have known many fighters. It is a discipline of physical strength and psychological balance. All the fighters I have known are quiet, peace-loving and non-violent outside of the ring. This is my friend Leo who fights and teaches self-knowledge and peace through discipline. To me, it is a phenomena of what people think and what reality is.
Honorable Mention
Why are wildflowers a phenomena, you ask? Well the whole big bang is widely debated phenomena. Therefore isn't all natural life created by Earth a little phenomena in itself? Something as gorgeous as a flower holds such a deeper phenomenal meaning.

This was the last day of 2019, so I took a walk with my sister. We talked about how our 2019 was and looking back I noticed that 2019 was full of unpleasant phenomena. It came to my mind that what I thought was so miserable and unbearable were actually the factors that allowed me to grow. This photo symbolizes myself in between 2019 and 2020 looking back. I am able to learn different lessons through my troubles and walk towards 2020. At the moment everything can look devastating and painful, but those events are what I am founded upon.
Honorable Mention
The photo was taken at a park. The picture was phenomenal because the tree was reflecting on my phone. This was a creative master piece.

This photo was taken in my kitchen and is the bottom of one glass cup that has green soap in the bottom of it. It was taken while I was holding the cup slanted to get the soap to move more towards the camera and reflect more light like the glass cup. To me it is a "phenomena" because the glass refraction and the soap create an abstract event of such a simple event of cleaning a glass cup.
Honorable Mention
I had recently moved into my home and the view of the sunrise had always taken me aback. Therefore, I wanted to capture the moment. It is a phenomena because it is a natural occurrence that cannot be controlled by humans, but can always be admired.
Honorable Mention
At one of my cross country meets, I had a friend stand on his hands and pretend like he was running upside down. While it seemed like a silly concept, the result was a representation of a phenomenon called "runner's high", which I have experienced myself as a runner. At a certain point during a run or a race, your body seems to float and leave your mind and soul flying across the ground. It is in these moments that I feel no pain, yet I am straining to continue forward. This is one of life's greatest pleasures. This is why I run, and this is why I create art.
