The photo was taken when I was driving home on a rainy day and I saw a rainbow, I didn't have rain drops on my windshield so I took them separately with a piece of paper covered in plastic wrap. This photo relates to the theme because this was a special event because you don't see rainbows often and this was the brightest one I have ever seen. The reason I decided to add more than one rainbow is because there was so many of them but I could only capture one at a time.
Honorable Mention
This is a photo of Skittles that I arranged underneath a piece of glass. The piece of glass was a foot above the Skittles. I put water droplets on the glass. I took an out of focus photo of the water droplets.

This photo shows the phenomena of a convex lens because the water droplets acted like a lens and focused the light reflecting off the colorful bullseye made out of Skittles so that the Skittles would be in focus through the lens created by the droplets.
Honorable Mention
I believe that the photo relates to the theme of a phenomenon because it shows how sunlight helps people see the world in many colorful ways. Yes, it has rainbows which are not rare however it shows the scientific process in which sunlight and a crystal or white light contribute to the making of the color spectrum, and how we are able to see these colors.

My dream career is to be a musician. I know it’s easier said than done, but I would love to do something I’m passionate about for a living. Growing up, I was exposed to almost every form of music and began to find likings to certain genres. I began performing at the age of 4 and the older I got, the more comfortable I was with different instruments. Also, at the moment I’m writing an album with my friends so that is already working towards it. I’m willing to work really hard for this profession, that way if it doesn’t work out I won’t wish I would’ve tried harder, I won’t have any regrets. I watch videos of the greats every day, to be playing like them, in front of that many people that support you, seems unreal. I want to pursue this career because I feel that it would lift my spirit and it feels good waking every morning with a tough goal in mind. It will keep me productive and busy, which is healthy. In all, this profession would mean the world to me and is something I feel would finally satisfy me. I’ll content with all the work I had put in and be rewarded with an audience that I’ll get to share my music with.

At his concert, I was in the front row. He was having fun, singing so great. He is an idol to me, or phenomenal. A phenomenal artist and person. In this photo he looks magical standing above me, a phenomenal figure. This photo was taken at Conan's concert this past December, I was there with my best friend. This photo relates to this year's theme because he is phenomenal in what he does, and this photo captures the powerful feeling. When taking this picture I had the same thoughts I am writing in my head as I do now. It was a great moment.

The concept of phenomena extends to the homeless in America, and the uniqueness of each homeless person in itself is an influence in the way people approach life. Whether it was caused by poverty, mental illness or even unluckiness, the means to which people get on the street are everchanging stories that are constantly overlooked on a daily basis. These people are living the lives that we tell stories about, and they are observed and ignored when they come into contact with other levels of society.

I want the contest judges to know that the value of each person is instantly undermined by first impressions of the homeless, but my work displays powerful messages that should make the judges consider what exists beyond our daily lives.

This photo captures the constant inner conflict, but in this photo it is expressed in the face.

The original photo of the hole and light pouring through it was taken in a dark roof-covered bridge. It was along the wall of the bridge. The image of the girl was taken in a classroom with a green screen. The photograph intends to embody the phenomena that is the relationship between light and dark. The photographer hoped to show that even when it seems that darkness will consume, light is always ready to stream through. Even if it seems that your mind and body are drenched by darkness- as seen with the girl's image being manipulated to become a silhouette- light will always come and shower you.

Light and Dark will always be related as they are opposites. The two will always be tethered together, and while most people depict the dark as bad, it is important to accept and admire that the two coincide with each other. One cannot exist without the other, and there is something beautiful and phenomenal about that.

When I read the contest theme, I immediately thought of the natural phenomenon of figures being contrasted with the sky due to the rising sun. Every day when I wake up to go to school, the sun is rising on the horizon and every shape in my backyard is silhouetted. As I get ready, the sun rises higher and the shapes become more clear and colorful. I was interested in the shape of the trees and mountains in my backyard when it is impossible to see their colors because it is hard to tell what is what. However, the very distinctive shape of palm trees clearly distinguish them from the rest of the black shapes, which I found very interesting and worthy of capturing because they represent Los Angeles to most of the world.

This photo was taken in a public park around sun down. The park was filled with trees and color from the sun which made a good setting for this photograph. This photo of my friend connects to the Phenomena theme because it was a photo that I took on my friends camera. Im not used to shooting digital photos and she allowed me to use her camera to shoot this photo of my friend. Because of the fact that I wasn't prepared and didn't know how this photo was going to turn out, it is phenomenal to me.

This photo was taken at Disneyland at the Ferris Wheel. I believe this photo is a phenomena because I found the bright colors harmonizing with the contrast of the night sky was very beautiful and a sight worth capturing. I also believe so because it’s not everyday you have the opportunity to witness a sight so youthful and jaw dropping.
Honorable Mention
During photography, we had a shutter speed unit and we were taking pictures of cars at different shutter speeds. I always thought it was cool to include a photographer in the picture. So in this photo, I decided to take a photo with slow shutter speed, while the other person was using a faster shutter speed. I thought it was a cool phenomenon that I was able to capture two different perspectives, as I got a photo of the car being blurry, while his photo of the car was not.

This dog is a "phenomena" because it is simply just existing. I hope the judges enjoy.

This local garden is supposed to be a place where people can walk around and enjoy the lush and beauty of our environment. However, when my friend and I went after a few years of not going, we saw more things dead than alive. There were trees that have fallen down, dead flowers on trees, we saw the color gray more than green. I took this candid photo of my friend, looking around at the environment deteriorating around her, and I thought the look on her face was really powerful as it encapsulated the "phenomena" of our world crumbling beneath our feet. Climate change is such a prevalent issue that more people need to be aware of, and I think the phenomena of it really struck my friend when she noticed all the dead surrounding her.

Sodium Silicate is the scientific word for liquid glass. CD's are somewhat of a phenomena in composition and how they reflect light. I am a small person and enjoy focusing my camera on the small phenomena of the world. I like how light reflects and faces through the ice and CD to create an interesting composition.
Honorable Mention
This photo was taken in Eagle Rock, California. It relates to this year's contest theme, "Phenomena", because I was looking to take photos in the style of William Eggleston for a project, and this car showed up out of nowhere. It was the perfect shot - the vibrancy of the red car, the vintage looks of the shops in front, and the hazy mountains in the background all interplayed well together and looked like a piece of Eggleston's work.

Phenomenal is remarkable, marvelous, unique, and rare that describes details about something or someone. Which is earth and nature that we are continuously around everyday and most importantly live off of. This is why I chose this photograph as a representation of phenomena. It shows the true beauty of the water, grass, plants, and sky which is only one. Earth is the only planet in our solar system that is home to many types of life.
Honorable Mention
This photo was taken on the top of a parking lot structure after it had rained. My friend and I noticed how pretty the puddles looked with the clouds and sun, and wanted to take photos of our reflection. Then we decided it would be fun to make it look like she was holding the sun.

This photo relates to this year's contest theme, as it is rare or practically a phenomena when it rains in California, and my friends and I get the chance to take amazing reflection photos. This photo also represents the theme phenomena as reflection photos such as these always make the world look like a mystical place, and it's a phenomena when one gets to look in these puddles at the right angle to see this strange effect.

Lastly, another reason this photo connects to the theme phenomena is because the photo resembles a total eclipse, which only reoccurs in same place on average once every 300 years!
Honorable Mention
The Greek word for Tension is "Stasi" and the phenomena of how surface tension works with oil and vinegar give a beautiful effect.
