I was walking home when I noticed this and instantly wanted to take a photo. The phenomena happens when there isn't enough water to be absorbed and causes a cracking effect.

This photo was taken on the bridge, and I thought that the background of the picture and the subject of the photo blended well. It was take at a low point of view, so that I would be at the same height as the subject in the photo.

This picture demonstrates “phenomena” because is it not everyday when you just go to the beach and the sun just looks so nice. The water so blue, and no one in the water.

I was shooting with a film camera and when walking down the walk, I saw what seemed like a doorway to the beach. It took me a second to realize that I was looking at a mirror. I thought it was funny. I really believed an unusual thing could occur and I decided I should shoot a photo of it.

This photo is a phenomenon that demonstrates the earth’s beautiful sunsets. Beautiful fluffy clouds surround the sky and show the earth’s ability to create breathtaking views everyday. This photo helps us feel more connected to the environment and it inspires us to enjoy what the world has to offer.

This image fits with the theme “phenomenon” because the contrast of the color is very bright and full of color. There is also a bee reviving energy from the nectar. My photo is very zoomed and focused on one thing while the rest is blurred, displaying one object as the main focus.

I used color and balance to take this picture. For example, many colors pop out and contrast each other, which boosts the portrayal to be more focused on one thing. Furthermore, unused balance to show how the bee is stabilizing on the flower and the direction where the wind is blowing. Lastly I added some value and texture to the flower and the bee.

Millions of years of evolution is seen just on the outside and you can see that the plant is there to protect what is inside and make sure no outside force will disturb it

This photo was taken on my way through the mountains to Solvang, Santa Ynez Valley when my family was taking a trip there for the day. My photo relates to this year's contest theme of phenomena in that the fog is oddly thick and you can't see through it. This makes you wonder what is behind the fog and what it might be concealing in its gray abyss.

"I took this picture right outside my school. I was walking back to school with my friends after a field trip. I needed to take a picture for a school photography project, and a bright, purple flower caught my eye. This isn’t my favorite picture that I’ve taken, but my teacher liked it and told me to enter it into this contest.

When you live in a big city, a blooming flower is quite a phenomenon. Growth and nature is a phenomenon in itself, even if you don’t live in an urban area. But inside a city, it is more rare to see a spectacle like a vibrant, purple flower, blooming by the sidewalk. This flower is definitely a phenomenon.

My photograph uses a couple of elements of composition. It uses the rule of thirds. Another thing my picture has is balance between the subject and the background. My picture also has vibrant colors and avoids mergers. Those are a couple photographic elements used in my picture."

I took this photograph of a potted plant on my deck. The plant isn't normally much to look at, but I covered my camera lens with a holographic bag a friend gave me which created the colorful effect in the photo. The potted plant isn't usually what would be considered a phenomenon, as it's neither rare nor impressive nor particularly interesting. However, with the camera lens and the holographic bag, I was able to shoot something that involves the eyes with color and creates the rare sensory experience of a phenomenon for the viewer, out of an ordinary plant.

This photo was taken in a studio with the lights off. The theme "phemomena" to me means something unrealistic or a fantasy. In this project I wanted to experiment with light painting to see what I could create.

This photo is a brilliant scene of the phenomenon of the beautiful colors of a male peacock that I was able to see while in a zen garden in California. It was a remarkable experience to be so close to one so calm and I had never seen the colors of a peacock as bright as this one.

At the start of this brief essay, I didn't really know what the contest was really asking for. I thought phenomenons had to be pictures of unexplainable events like the eruption of a volcano. I was blinded by the idea that phenomenon had to be something mind-blowing and complicated. But I wanted to pull out something from our every day lives that, as humans, we looked over with no significance and capture it with my camera to preserve the moment for people to see. And than It hit me, The biggest phenomenon of all is the ability to communicate and create a special bond between us, our friendship. it is something that we cannot explain. Our world revolves around the necessity to make bonds and relate to other people. If you feel excluded with no friends, you will get depressed and your perspective of life will change. Since the beginning of history, even in books, like "Adam and Eve" the entire concept revolves in human connection. Phenomenons are so special that they cannot be willingly captured because there is no explanation to it. I did not mean to capture friendship, only two guys hugging. I was only able to identify what I captured after taking the picture. This is why friendship is a phenomenon.

The photo was taken outside when my friend was blowing bubbles.
I love science and seeing how the principles we read about in books play out in our daily lives. Some of the most fascinating aspects are the sphere, physics, and how surface tension works with them to create bubbles. I love how the bubble is both translucent and also an iridescent mirror of the world. It is amazing how when a bubble has equal pressure it is able to exist and continue. It is just like how we have to keep our lives in balance for our own healthy existence. The bubble is an amazing phenomenon that has so many parallels to our lives.

This photo was taken at my school and I believe it is phenomena because of the pure joy and happiness that bubbles can produce in people. I also think it is amazing that these little, delicate bubbles can last so long floating in the sir.

This photo was taken outside of a house where there was a thorny rose bush. The model in this photo is my friend Kalliope. I think that this picture is phenomenal because she is posed in such a natural way that shows that she is not really trying but still is the center of attention. The shadow on her face and the lighting in this picture is perfect, also making this a phenomenal piece. A few weeks ago I wanted to have a photoshoot with my two friends incorporating butterflies. After this idea came to mind, my dad and I went to Hobby Lobby to pick out some fake butterflies. While walking with my friends, we stumbled upon a house with a pretty garden with nature that I thought would go with their aesthetics. I thought that this thorn would match Kalliope’s presence by complimenting her features.

My photograph is unusual and you probably don’t know what it is. If you look closely, you may see something you did not see at first.
Honorable Mention
I think my picture looks like phenomena because everyday the clouds create a different formation. This day it looked like Cotton Candy.

In our society today, everything is constantly being documented, even the food we eat. And I wanted to take a photo to show this screen use in everyday life. This was taken in a market at a small Chinese food cafe.

The phenomenon of this photograph is the location itself. Taken at the pop-up Infinity Mirrored Room at the Broad, the horizon line filled with lights and lanterns seemingly stretches to infinity. There are few, if any, other spots like it.

In this photo I used the elements of space (no pun intended) and value to capture the space. The lights above the horizon line fade into an ombré affect and the negative space around the lights makes it seem like they are hanging in space. The balance of the lights balances out towards the horizon line almost like the sun is setting. I also used the rule of thirds, with the horizon specifically placed higher up and the subject off to the far right side.
