They say that the eyes are the window to the soul, and that is what I wanted to capture in my photo. I feel that my photo portrays many different meanings and that is why I find it so unique. I used the macro technique to get the detail that you see in her eye. The color of the golden sunset makes her eye very calming and beautiful to look and invokes a sense of calmness that you wouldn’t normally find.

You must be wondering, how a cross is a phenomenon to me? Well, to answer that question, I am a strong believer who loves God no matter what. I do believe there is a God, and I do believe that Jesus was a human being who died on the cross for everyone. Faith is my life and faith is my way, I will always love Jesus, for He will do the same.
Honorable Mention
The photo fits the theme of phenomenon because it shows a reflection of the clouds in a puddle of water on the curb of the street. It empathizes how our society has become so horrible and selfish that the streets are full of trash, so much so that its reached the clouds.

I took this photo during a vehicle fire on the side of Interstate 5. The whole thing was somewhat surreal, and I was given the task of taking pictures of the incident. This photo captures the subject of "phenomena" in several ways. Firstly, it highlights the natural- and unfortunately common- spectacle of fire and its dangerous yet beautiful qualities. I also believe the teamwork of firefighters is an incredible phenomenon in itself, and their selflessness is something that can not be easily overlooked.

I worked at a summer camp for kids. This is a photograph of a mother holding her son's hands for reassurance. It was wonderful to see the family connections. I think family bonds are a phenomena that holds our world together.

When I was in Maui I was at the beach and then a sea turtle washed up onto the shore. I think it was phenomenal because I had never seen a sea turtle wash up on the shore to lay eggs, and it is very fascinating how big a sea turtle is and how they can swim in the ocean. Save the turtles!
Honorable Mention
I really liked the idea of combining the two things that should never go together but work so well. This photo was a collective effort I had my mom holding the ice and my little bother keeping the fire going while I took the photo. I wanted to capture the chemical phenomenon of fire tied in with the physical phenomenon of the ice.
Honorable Mention
This photograph represents the phenomenon of time. Time cannot be avoided. Whenever we are enjoying something, it always comes to an end and we wish we could stop time. The ice represents this feeling of wanting to stop in the moment and enjoy the activity we are doing before it is over. The fire creeps by, melting the ice, resulting in a new day leaving us unsatisfied and wanting to go back. I put the clock in a box of water and froze it in the water over night. I waited for half of a side to melt and filled the side with paper towel and lit it on fire. It is cool to see the final product of a project I did in my backyard.

This photo is of a dancer performing the jump called a Fire-bird. It was taken at Natural Bridges Beach in Santa Cruz California as a silhouette photo and edited to enhance the natural rays of light. This photo represents "phenomena" because this jump is very difficult to perform let alone photograph at its peak. The composition of the photo also allows you to see the breathtaking scenery of the beach clearly within the background.
Honorable Mention
The reflection of the playground through a magnifying glass adds mystery to the photograph. For me, it looks like goldfish swimming in a pond.

This photo shows Hot Creek in Mammoth. This is a phenomenon because it shows a river that holds fish that have been living there for many years in a place that used to be uninhabitable because of sulfur pools and scalding water. Now this place is a thriving ecosystem with many fish and enough food for them to survive.
Honorable Mention
This photo was taken at the Monterey Bay Aquarium when I was on a summer vacation. When I read the description of they jellyfish, it stood out to me that they have no brain, heart, bones, or eyes. Yet they still manage to survive, floating and going with the flow of the ocean currents. In a world full of stress, I look to jellyfish to show me that no matter what happens, life has a way of working everything out.

This specific flower caught my attention because of how it was composed. It's so unique, special and so natural. Those textures are so impressive and those lines are so expressive. The "Flower in The Dark" relates to the theme" Phenomena " because this flower is rare, impressive, natural and something that you don't see in other flowers. Also one technique that I used to catch the viewer's attention was the rule of the thirds.
Honorable Mention
"Like a flower in the desert
I had to grow
in the cruelest weather,
holding on to every drop of rain
just to stay alive.
But it's not enough to survive,
i want to bloom
beneath the blazing sun,
and show you all of the colors
that live inside of me, I want you to see
what I can become."

Honorable Mention
My photo fits the phenomena theme because in the picture, just below the ceiling of the station, there are three mannequins with clothes on floating in the air, closely resembling actual human beings. Anywhere you go, you wouldn’t normally see people in the sky, but in this picture, three people are floating under the ceiling. I also used the columns in the photo to draw the eyes along each mannequin, the close one to the middle one to the far one.
Honorable Mention
This image is an example of phenomena because as the crystal clear water cascades down the slippery slope of the rock, for some bizarre reason it foams. The foam takes over the majority of the surface, which is rarely seen in fountains. Another reason this image is a phenomena is unless told, the viewer can only speculate where the water hails from. The viewer may think it's a fountain, waterfall, or a cave! Hence the image being a phenomena, due to its mysterious overpower of foam and its inconclusive identity.
Honorable Mention
I feel like the footsteps represent that it's a long road to go from life. This is also my first photo contest so I'm kind of nervous.
Honorable Mention
The picture was taken at my school to try and replicate the style of a photographer, Francois Dourlen. This relates to the theme of phenomena because a phenomena is something that only occurs once in a long time and this type of picture could be considered a human-created phenomena.
Honorable Mention
Mushrooms are associated with the trees and forest and are considered a good luck charm. They come in all different shapes and sizes and can be healthy or dangerous. Mushrooms are a phenomena because they are truly, a remarkable thing of nature. I took this photo after noticing how many mushrooms have grown due to the rainfall. Taking this photo made me realize how we ignore the little things in life around us. Photography is a big passion of mine, it has been since I was little. Getting my first camera after years of wanting one has made my passion even bigger.
Honorable Mention
This is a photo of my sister and cat. It is the phenomena of a child's joy with a pet cat.
