Description:
Vidraru Dam was constructed by the Socialist Republic of Romania in 1966 to glorify the communist regime and its achievements. My mother was raised in this oppressive regime and was taught to dedicate herself to communism. Almost 30 years have passed since the Romanian people had revolted and adopted democracy and the country still bares deep scars from this oppression. This past summer, I visited my mother’s birthplace and explored my family's history. For the first time in my life, I could investigate my ancestry through photography. My photo depicts a monument that heralds a lost era which is still fresh in the minds of many Romanians.
