A trip to Sacramento Wildlife Refuge always requires patience and investigation.

At first, there is only brush, reeds, empty logs and water.
Where is the wildlife?
What is behind that bush? What is camouflaged behind the reeds?
What is only a few inches under water, hidden from view?

Close examination, perseverance (and a zoom lens) brings excitement and joy of discovery!

With careful, quiet, investigation the wildlife is exposed. There is elation as the hare jumps out of the brush, a deer steps from the reeds, or that log that appears to have bumps is actually the habitat of several turtles. Further zooming-in brings the details of the Western Pond Turtles to life showing the intricate beauty in nature.

The trip has once again been a success!
