This picture is of a drifting competition. It was the last round of the competition and the race was getting very intense. The beauty of this sport, which always draws people's attention, is just simply how the car slides across the track, back and forth. These types of events are interesting to watch because of the danger and the speed that the cars are going. The cars are always staying close together so there is no space for any error. If they mess up during the race they will crash into a wall or whatever is in front of them. These events usually draws car enthusiast's attention. Some other people go just to see cars crash.

"I decided to photograph my challenge project on a very important issue that is dear to my heart. Depression, anxiety, and isolation are very serious topics even if the media portrays it in a different way. Because of so many things that are thrown at teenagers, and the expectations they must reach, teens are like butterflies barely in the stage of metamorphosis. They are developing into adulthood. Without freedom, the butterfly will never learn to fly on its own. We as people strive to be the best in every aspect of our lives, and we are willing to wreck ourselves in order to accomplish it. Many teens are given such high expectations from parents and teachers who don’t understand that sometimes these expectations can be very hard to accomplish and it’s beyond our reach.

Because depression is a very common misconception, it is thought to be just a joke or something that we say we have because we want attention. It is not a game and it has many consequences if not handled properly. Although some people don’t understand it, that doesn’t mean it isn’t real or that it’s less important.

It isn’t fair that teenagers have to handle their internal struggles alone because they are afraid to open up. They feel isolated or might feel like a puppet living other people's dreams and ambitions. Many teens believe that they can handle it themselves when in reality they cannot. Not asking for help can cause many more issues in a person’s life such as leaning towards alcohol and drugs. It is okay to ask for help when we need. Teens need to realize that asking for help doesn’t make them weak, rather it makes them strong because they are willing to open up about their issues.

Mental illnesses are very common amongst teens. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, about three million teens have suffered from a depressive episode in a year. Together we can participate to talk about it because it can help bring solutions to these topics. Resources should be available for all students from elementary school, middle school to high school level. Having these resources available for students is a step in the right direction. I want students to feel that they have a support system at school. I want the new generation to feel good about themselves and have a healthy beginning. Together we can make a difference.

This photo was taken in a photography studio in a classroom. The theme of this picture was "magazine mask". What we did was cut out other people's faces and put the parts on someone else. I think the deeper meaning to this is be whoever you want. And this goes along with "participate" by showing that you do not need to be afraid to put yourself out there and talk to others. Do not fear being judged for who you are.

This photo was taken at a restaurant. This picture shows that both people have to participate in a relationship to make it work.

During this field trip my classmates and I all gathered around the tank and watched the jellyfish drift. We all engaged and got to learn about marine life.

However beautiful cities can be, they contribute to light pollution, which makes it harder to see the stars. Light pollution is a collective action where every single person with one light can contribute to miles of light. My dad is participating in the light pollution by using his flashlight on a night hike. His flashlight brings the idea of how wherever humans are, they always leave pollution, whether it is in the form of light, trash, or other things, even when they are in nature. I named this piece "Jigsaw Junction" because the two main realities in our world, cities and nature, combine together through this photo. And many humans participate in this light pollution.

This year I decided to participate in a photography class. Taking pictures is fun and you can be creative.

My photo was taken at Camp Pendleton beach an hour or two before sunset when my brother and I were playing in the water.

I believe my photograph relates to the theme “participate” because my brother is having a fun time and enjoying the beautiful sun and the warm sand by jumping and running round. My brother and I are showing each other our trick that we can do. By participating in this game is how I got this photograph.

This photo means so much to me because I made that contest; it's called the jumping contest. We were out in the world, in our school, enjoying this time on a cloudy day. Aivan is the homie that was helping me take these photos, and I think I found the right one. We had to jump from pole to pole to get the right angle, and it may look like he was just standing on a pole but he's actually in mid air throwing up the peace sign for nature. It was taken outside of class, and it relates to the theme because it was a picture taken at the place and time it was supposed to be taken at.

I took this photo of my little sister in my mom's car.

I took this photo in photography class at my school. I used this photo because I felt as if they were all participating in making each other laugh. I had taken this photo at the end of the school day yet my friends were still able to participate in making each other laugh. They had all climbed up on a lunch table and started cracking jokes. My friends and I had fun taking this photo and I’m glad I participated in this project.

I feel that this photo ties together with the theme of participation because they had all participated in making each other laugh, and they are all great friends.

This photo depicts a group of lemons. One lemon is in front making the other lemons look terribly blurry. The group of lemons in the back is trying to take a photo of their acting, and are attempting to put on a play. The lemon in front is trying to help but is just making the other lemons very annoyed. They are all participating in different ways with varying results. I would like to note that I think that this photo is hilarious and that it took a very long time to get the lemons in place. They're very picky.
