My girlfriend and I were laying out in the football field during lunch when we came across a green ladybug. How often do you see a green ladybug? This is a really cool Phenomena, I think it is green to help it blend in with the grass.
Honorable Mention
In between the three buildings from my school, there is a big quad with some small lunch tables. As I was walking down from there, I noticed this garden weed plant growing in between two concrete tiles. I found it fascinating how a plant cold grow in such a condition. For me this phenomenon is inspiring because, it shows how a person has the potential to grow regardless of all the things life puts on them. I find this phenomenon ground breaking (pun intended) and this picture as a reminder to myself that it is possible to grow as a being, even if you are trapped behind concrete tiles.

Her freckles
Worth more than any amount of shekels.
Her beauty beyond description.
Her admirable strength through afflictions.
Her heart so full of love and hope
As she dreams for a successful future without a single mope.
The eagerness in her eyes
Creates a belly full of butterflies
In those that love her.
Her love towards others
Is one like no other.
Her unique physique
Is worth far more than any antique.
Her freckles
Just as the stars of the night skies
Makes her even more wise.

This photo was taken in front of a neighborhood tree.
This photograph personally represents the word "phenomena" because my model is such a unique individual in her positivity as well as her physical beauty. Her freckles are unique to her and help to make her different from many other people in the world. Her kindness and her selfless actions are unlike anything or anyone I have ever met or seen before. Her strength to endure through even the most difficult situations is what ultimately makes her an excellent example of someone that is phenomenal.

The photo was taken in the makeshift classroom studio. I would say it relates to phenomena because of the expression on the guy's face. The context around the imagine is a boy who is wandering around and comes across a mysterious chalice like object. He doesn't know why he feels this way but he feels like the cup is connected to his destiny.
Honorable Mention
I saw a hummingbird exploring a tree nearby. To take this photo I had to balance myself on the edge of a fountain to get the perfect angle so the branches of the tree wouldn't block the small bird. Known as one of the smallest species of bird that fly so fast, this photo was very hard to capture.

The flames grew in size when we dumped lighter fluid on them
The burning wood shrunk
Becoming older and older
Like the fire was coming close to an end
The flames changed to blue
As if they were going out
Or getting cold
The fire must be old

Phenomena of trying to identify yourself in a society that doesn’t accept you. In society today, LGBTQ+ rights are being stripped away. This photo demonstrates the split between people who are trying to be themselves. The way the model is looking into the camera shows that he just wants love, and it doesn’t matter who they are in love with.

This photo was really simple to shoot. I blew bubbles and photographed the ones that stuck to the blades of grass. The phenomenon shown in the photo is the iridescence in the bubble. Iridescence is the multitude of colors found on the surface of the bubble. It's rather amazing how one surface can show such a wide array of colors, and even if this is a phenomenon most everyone has seen, it's no less mesmerizing.

I took this photo of my little brother (Jacob) in my loving home in the morning before school. With the morning light coming through the window in our living room, it gives off a vibe of comfort and warmth. I played around with shadows and lighting to give off a cool perspective of the model in the image. This photo relates to this year's contest theme, "Phenomena", because the image shows the sense of comfort and warmth that my younger brother is feeling in his perspective. My younger brother has delicate and soft facial features which shows the perspective of a young kid's childhood. His expression shows off his beautiful personality and how happy he truly is.

This photo is phenomenal in the way that you don't see sand frozen in the air every so often. Not everyone visits the beach or a lagoon often and since I happen to live nearby, I thought it'd be cool to take advantage of where I live. I used a low shutter speed to make the sand that my friend kicked and his foot be blurred whilst everything else is in clear detail

This photo was taken in Lake Mathews, CA on top of a small hill in a winding neighborhood. Lake Mathews is a beautiful hidden gem of Southern California and goes through a superbloom every year, big or small, gorgeous either way. On a three minute trek, up a small hill, were beautiful California Poppy’s and other sorts of wildflowers. The golden light pouring over the beautiful spring bloom was an absolute phenomena. These wildflowers only stay a month out of the year, and when they do it is a photographers dream. This is the type of scenery that blows you away in Southern California.

This photo was taken at the train stop at Pompeii in Napoli, Italy. I took this picture as my mother and I were waiting for the old subway train that takes passengers to the stop where we would would board a boat to go to the island of Capris, just off the coast of Napoli. This photo relates to this year's theme of "Phenomena" because it shows the quiet and seemingly eerie nature of most of Napoli. Napoli has a lot of very run down buildings, and this picture shows one side of the story. You would expect the city that hosts one of the marvels of the world, the ruins of Pompeii, to be well maintained and up to date; however, the city of Napoli also seems to be stuck in the past, much like the rest of the country. This is not a bad thing; however, as it preserves and maintains the deeply rooted history of the wonderful nation of Italy.

I just love how the lilac and its hues bounce off of the CD in a phenomenal reflection.

I took this photograph at a zoo. I had just gotten new lenses and was very excited to take photos of animals, which I am very interested in. While there, two lions were sitting next to each other, showing compassion towards each other. This relates to phenomena because when most people think of lions, they think of scary, dangerous animals. However, when observed more closely, you can see that they can be just as kind and caring as any other creature, and don't deserve such harsh judgment. Therefore, it is a phenomena to be able to see something from a different perspective and gain a warmer understanding of it.

Last October I went with Habitat for Humanity to Tutwiler Mississippi to build a home for the homeless. While I was there a stray dog came up to me and looked me right in the eyes and made me reflect on myself and look within. From looking within myself I realized what I want to do with my life, help the people in need and capture the beauties of life through my camera. Being in Mississippi and living in the community so different from mine made me feel free and away from everything that brings me stress and anxiety. From exploring abandoned houses to walking for miles on the forgotten railroads, the adventures of this trip opened my eyes and helped me understand the phenomena of life just a little more.

The phenomenal aspect of this piece is the story it tells and the significance of the subjects and colors. This abstract piece tells a story with the themes of isolation and exhaustion. What is being showcased is a dog behind the cage. The dog represents a man who has had a history with getting a lot of attention and fame. Later on, the man becomes socially and mentally with the attention that he possesses. With this, he attempts to “run from the bright lights”. The man wants to isolate himself in another world and to find peace of mind. The cage symbolizes what is separating or isolating himself with the attention, or in this case, the “other world”. It is essentially the border of which he is trying to hide behind. The dirt on the cage symbolizes the amount of stress and exhaustion that the man has gone through. He has barely escaped the lights and is at peace. The colors in this piece are also significant. The color of the cage offers a bright white and blue tone. Those colors represent the attention and lights that the man was attempting to escape from. What lies behind the cage offers a dark red color, which represents the lonely, yet peaceful world that the man is hiding in. The man has escaped from the other world and has finally found peace, but at what cost?

These cigarette butts were found and have been stored in a large jar. After a rain storm, all of the cigarettes flowed to the water. There were over 10,000 in one jar. Every day students, like me, observe cigarettes on the ground after being smoked. We must be aware that these small objects have a lasting impact on our environment. We must bring awareness and save our planet.

Everyday I wake up early in the morning to go to school and on my way to school the sun shines brightly in the sky. I was on my way to school when I decided to take this picture from a puddle. When taking this picture I used a natural resource, a puddle, to give my picture a "life" which is how I see a "Phenomena"; natural.

For some people, phenomena are facts or events that can be observed through the senses, but it can also be things that are rare or impressive. But personally I find “Phenomena” in nature. Nature can be found everywhere, and I believe that nature is pretty rare but beautiful at the same time. Nature can make you feel inspired and I think that is phenomenal.
Honorable Mention
I see phenomena in this picture for a couple reasons. Being able to stop and appreciate the details of nature. There is beauty in so many things that we have in life. And it can be rare because not everyone can say that they stop and take time to enjoy and bask in the natural beauty.
