Description:
The phenomenal aspect of this piece is the story it tells and the significance of the subjects and colors. This abstract piece tells a story with the themes of isolation and exhaustion. What is being showcased is a dog behind the cage. The dog represents a man who has had a history with getting a lot of attention and fame. Later on, the man becomes socially and mentally with the attention that he possesses. With this, he attempts to “run from the bright lights”. The man wants to isolate himself in another world and to find peace of mind. The cage symbolizes what is separating or isolating himself with the attention, or in this case, the “other world”. It is essentially the border of which he is trying to hide behind. The dirt on the cage symbolizes the amount of stress and exhaustion that the man has gone through. He has barely escaped the lights and is at peace. The colors in this piece are also significant. The color of the cage offers a bright white and blue tone. Those colors represent the attention and lights that the man was attempting to escape from. What lies behind the cage offers a dark red color, which represents the lonely, yet peaceful world that the man is hiding in. The man has escaped from the other world and has finally found peace, but at what cost?
