In this work of art, I wanted to capture the true beauty of being content with the small things in life. In this photograph that I captured, I witnessed a deprived and underprivileged child scavenge for leftover cookies in a trash bin. The way his face lit up with pure happiness was truly a moment I’ll remember forever. He found a way to find simple happiness in the moment with something so small as finding some cookies. I have learned to never take anything for granted and knowing there are billions of people who struggle to live life to their desired capabilities.

I took this while going to a garden with my class. I feel like it ties to this year's theme because this plant is phenomena in general. When it first starts growing it looks like a ball of fur, but once it opens it looks amazing. The whole process looks spectacular. In my picture, it was almost done blooming but you can still can see the fur like in the middle.

I took this photo at the top of Mt.Wilson when I went to go to a star gazing night at Mt. Wilson Observatory. I think this photo relates to the theme of "Phenomena" because to me, stars are such a fascinating thing. Like for example, the stars that I photographed that day could have been dead so long ago. But the light still remains and we can still see it. When you look up into the sky, you are basically looking into the past. To me thats just crazy and it raises one of those questions in my head that I can't stop thinking about. Its just crazy how the universe works.

I took this photo at the top of Mt.Wilson when I went to go to a star gazing night at Mt. Wilson Observatory. I think this photo relates to the theme of "Phenomena" because to me, stars are such a fascinating thing. Like for example, the stars that I photographed that day could have been dead so long ago. But the light still remains and we can still see it. When you look up into the sky, you are basically looking into the past. To me thats just crazy and it raises one of those questions in my head that I can't stop thinking about. Its just crazy how the universe works.

I took this photo in the streets of Cusco, Peru during an art parade. These girls pose with their baby llama and ask for pocket change almost everyday to earn money for their family. However, I was able to take this candid shot of them walking casually around people in Peru. It's not everyday that I get to immerse myself in the beautiful culture of Peru like this.

My cat and I tend to sit and stare out the window together all the time, and it's something I look forward to. For my cat, the house traps her from experiencing the outside; and for me it tends to feel the same. Even though all we do is stare outside and watch the birds, it is still an event in my life that I enjoy and pay attention to.

My “Surf's Up” photo relates to the theme "phenomena" because one of the senses that can be observed is color. As I was walking to the park, I noticed the vibrancy of the color in the surfboard and how it contrasted with the sky. This painted a picture in my mind of how I wanted to shoot the surfboard in a creative way. I took the picture at an angle where the camera was looking up at the surfboard and where you could clearly see the sky. I really enjoyed editing this picture and the final result is how I wanted it to look.

My “Surf's Up” photo relates to the theme "phenomena" because one of the senses that can be observed is color. We mustn't forget the vitality of emotional honesty.
The tree was just starting to bloom small pink flowers, and there were a lot of bees buzzing around and landing on the pretty flowers. I tried to take a picture of the bee landing on the flower, but it wasn't easy. So I considered it a Phenomenon because no matter how quiet I moved and how still I was, I wasn't able to get a picture of a bee in focus. Once I was able to get a picture that was in focus, it came out beautiful. I personally thought it was an interesting picture.
The Bee In a Big World
The tree was just starting to bloom small pink flowers, and there were a lot of bees buzzing around and landing on the pretty flowers. I tried to take a picture of the bee landing on the flower, but it wasn't easy. So I considered it a Phenomenon because no matter how quiet I moved and how still I was, I wasn't able to get a picture of a bee in focus. Once I was able to get a picture that was in focus, it came out beautiful. I personally thought it was an interesting picture.
The photo was taken at Zion National Park, Utah. It was taken after nearly a 3 hour climb to the summit of Angels Landing. Once at the top, you are standing at 5790 ft of elevation, and you are able to a see a 360 degree view of the rest of Zion Canyon. The photo relates to this year's theme, phenomena, because it's quite amazing how these things just form out of the ordinary. Not only can you see the canyon, you have the ability to climb the mountain that is very phenomenal.

What does the picture I took mean to me. It means a lot to me because the image I captured looks very intense and different because it doesn't look like your traditional wave. It took very good timing to take this photo mid-crash. I have shown people this picture and everyone has said they have never seen a wave like it before.

During summer vacation, my family and I went to Green Island which is just about 130 kilometers away from Taiwan. It turned out to be very hot there despite being surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, hence its nickname "Fire Island". The island wasn't very large as it was originally a place for prisoners, and only had a road that circled around it. As our tour guide drove us along the winding path, he explained that water activities are usually on the west side of the island because the ocean floor has a gradual slope upwards to the shore on the west unlike the steep slope on the other side of the island, thus the ocean waves are calmer on the west than east. Indeed, when our tour guide drove further towards the east side of the island, the light-colored, gentle, lapping ocean waves shifted to a deep shade of blue, rolling fiercely. Fascinated by the dramatic change of scene, I immediately told him to stop by the side of the road and whipped out my camera. Unlike the usual beach waves that I've often experienced, the wild waves crashed powerfully against the giant rocks as the sea breeze blew, spraying misty seawater everywhere. I stood in that spot for a long time, sweating under the hot sun, trying to take a good shot. Never have I seen such a stunning sight: the dark ocean water churning restlessly, along with the vivid green mountains and the clear blue sky, and you could even see other lands in the distance.

For those who do ride a motorbike they need to escape from their own minds and have the opportunity to be social through sharing one of the few experiences of riding a motorbike. The movement is enough to be able to relate to others through motor biking. My brother rides a motorbike and tells me he chooses to ride because it reaches part of his personality that nothing else can. A sense of focus, freedom from the stress of life and being in the moment of riding his motorbike through the mountains or anywhere. There appears to be many advantages in owning a motorbike. Life is the sum of experiences and riding a motorbike gives a person an experience like no other.
